If you love a vibrant display in the form of brilliantly colourful fireworks, head to Ballarat this weekend for the city’s annual Fireworks Spectacular.

This Sunday, Ballarat is set to light up the night sky with a spectacular fireworks display, drawing over 10,000 eager spectators to the picturesque Lake Wendouree foreshore.

The free event promises to be a visual feast, with many more residents tuning in from the comfort of their homes for the dazzling Fireworks Spectacular 2024.

Keep up with the latest in local news and entertainment here.

Scheduled to kick off at 9:30 pm on Sunday, January 14, the fireworks will add an extra sparkle to the City of Ballarat’s Summer Sundays lineup at the beautiful Botanical Gardens.

Leading the pyrotechnic mastery is the local wizard of fireworks, Matthew Batty from Northern Fireworks, returning to create a mesmerizing show featuring an impressive 5039 shots, including 725 aerial shells and 4314 ground effects.

The 15-minute display is a highlight of Ballarat’s summer calendar, transforming the city’s sky into a spectacle of colour, height, and stunning effects.

City of Ballarat Deputy Mayor, Cr Peter Eddy, expressed his excitement, saying, “Local pyrotechnician Matthew Batty really is so talented, creating such a stunning show with both small and large pyrotechnics. This event truly adds to the city’s vibrant summer calendar. Fingers crossed for good weather so everyone can enjoy the Fireworks Spectacular!”

Even if you can’t make it to the foreshore, the dazzling display will be visible from most homes across the city, thanks to Batty’s expertise in crafting a show that captivates audiences both near and far.

A word of advice from the Deputy Mayor: ensure your pets are safe and sound indoors during the display if they are prone to being spooked by loud noises.

Of course, with outdoor events, Mother Nature gets a say. The Fireworks Spectacular is weather-dependent, and the City of Ballarat is committed to ensuring the safety of all attendees. If weather conditions prove unsafe on Sunday, the event will be rescheduled for the following night, Monday, January 15, provided the weather permits.

Residents will be promptly notified of any changes through announcements over the PA at the Summer Sundays event, social media posts on City of Ballarat, Summer Sundays, and Ballarat In The Know channels, as well as signage and marshals around Lake Wendouree.

While no parking restrictions are in place around Lake Wendouree, residents are urged to exercise caution due to the expected increase in traffic in the precinct. So, get ready for a night of enchantment as Ballarat welcomes back the Fireworks Spectacular to kick off a dazzling 2024!
