Industry updates from Music Victoria
Written by Al Parkinson, Office & Membership Coordinator at Music Victoria
G’day Forte Legends,
Happy 2018! What an incredible summer it’s been in ‘This State We’re In’, hope you all had an amazing festive period and saw a heap of great live music. Few updates for you.
Firstly, just to confirm all of our thoughts on the matter, our music scene is looking pretty healthy considering the latest report by Live Performance Australia showing greater participation in the arts than AFL, NRL, soccer, super rugby, cricket and NBL combined! Music is in the TOP 3 artforms in Victoria, with contemporary music attracting the majority of attendance to live performance!
Secondly and probably the MOST exciting is that the third Victorian Music Crawl is happening Feb 9-11 and we’ll be making our way all around Geelong, Bellarine, Surf coast and Warrnambool! The Victorian Music Crawl is a Victorian Government initiative led by Music Victoria. Delivered in partnership with local government in regional Victoria, the tour aims to build connections between Melbourne-based music industry figures and bands, venues, agents, events, promoters, media and more based in regional Victoria. The ‘Crawl will stop off at Birregurra, Port Fairy, Tarerer, Warrnambool, Lorne, Airey’s Inlet, Anglesea, Queenscliff, Point Lonsdale, Ocean Grove and Geelong, with a range of activities and performances planned for each destination.
Local artists to showcase and engage with guests include: Archie Roach, Kayla Dwyer, Lee “Sonyboy” Morgan, Cooper Lower, Miss Whiskey, Wayne Jury, Mark Lang (Skipping Girl Vinegar), Gallie, Sarah Carroll and Chris Wilson, Leah Senior, Sweethearts, Localles, Al Parkinson, plus many others. There will be a few public events, keep an eye on our Facebook page and website for more info to get on board.
We mentioned last month we were finalising our professional development workshop series for 2018 and we are super dooper close! Soon we will be announcing our workshops and masterclasses including topics such as Music Exporting, Mental Health, Digital Marketing & PR, and much more – including regional events! All of our sessions are FREE to attend for Music Victoria members (annual individual membership from just $33), so keep an eye on our website and events calendar for these which will be released very, very soon!
See you on the road and the dance floor.
Al & the Music Vic crew.
