Piano Bar is moving to the Geelong Race Course

Temporarily.

The last two weeks have been pretty amazing in regional Victoria. Life has returned to the city centres; restaurants have actual diners, pubs are pouring beers, boot camps are running outdoors, retail stores are open, and beauty services are back in action. It’s good vibes.

One venue ensuring the good vibes keep flowing is Geelong’s famed Piano Bar, who are going above and beyond to showcase Geelong’s burgeoning music scene.

The last two weeks have seen the venue host several intimate evenings with Piano Bar favourites. Guests were able to sing along, enjoy a glass of wine and graze on some delicious bites… however due to the restrictions on indoor venues, these sessions were extremely limited.

Never to shy away from a challenge, the team at Piano Bar have announced a collaboration with the Geelong Racing Club, and will be moving to a Piano Bar Marquee (Thanks to the Marquee Guy) at the Mounting yard.

Allowing for a little bit more freedom and the ability to cater to more regional Victorians, the two-hour sessions will still include everything you know and love about Piano Bar – the singalongs, the requests and the piano – only it will be outdoors, undercover and socially distanced.

The sessions will run Friday through to Sunday at 6pm to 8pm and 8:30pm to 10:30pm. Tickets will include hot canapés and antipasto boards by SteamPocket catering, while drinks can be purchased at bar prices.

This news comes alongside the venue taking outdoor performances three days a week to Little Malop Street, after working with the City of Greater Geelong to finalise a proposal for use of Minns Place in the CBD.

Bringing the laneway to life, the Piano Bar is also running an outdoor jazz-themed entertainment space, called ‘Laneway Jazz’ between midday and 5pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Guests are being entertained with a rotating schedule of free performances, offering local musicians an opportunity to return to the live stage.

A pop-up bar is also operating from a vacant building on Minns Place, while patrons are being encouraged to support local business by ordering food from nearby venues. The laneway can host 50 guests seated in line with the Victorian Government’s density requirements.

This also follows Piano Bars continued commitment to the Geelong music scene, hosting countless live steam performances throughout both rounds of restrictions. Delivering the unparalleled atmosphere that only a piano bar delivers direct to the home of viewers, the digital events featured all the things we love about our nights at Piano Bar – drags, magicians, piano performances, and many special guest artists.

It’s time to support local, get around these absolute legends, and start singing at the top of your lungs to all those guilty pleasures.

You can book your session at the Geelong Racing Club here while no reservations are required for the Laneway Jazz eventsm which are free.
