Geelong’s Shinya Ramen & Bar is expanding once again, opening in Torquay and Little Malop Street

If you’re looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience, Shinya Ramen is the place to be.

Ramen. The beautiful marriage of tender meat and soft noodles bathing in the juices of a belly-warming broth with delicious toppings. The classic Japanese dish has become a winter warmer of choice here in Geelong, with restaurants across town serving up quality renditions ranging from the traditional to the inventive.

While Japan may lay claim to inventing the world’s most sumptuous and exotic noodle soup, Geelong’s own Shinya Ramen is an authentic and traditional ramen restaurant that boasts an experienced Japanese chef with a passion for his craft… and now owner Bryan Mu is expanding his business further across the region.

With two locations already, the original store on Gheringhap Street in Geelong in 2019 and one in Waurn Ponds last year, the traditional local chain is bringing its soul-warming ramen served with the flair and integrity that only a real ramen chef can provide to Torquay and Geelong’s CBD, opening stores later this year.

The key takeaways

  • Shinya Ramen & Bar is expanding to Torquay
  • The local Japanese chain already has two locations in Geelong, with plans to also open in the CBD on Little Malop Street
  • Since opening in 2019, Shinya Ramen is earning a reputation as the best ramen outside of Japan

Opening on Gilbert Street in Torquay, the coastal store will continue to bring the creative Japanese cuisine and quality customer service that they’ve become renowned for in Geelong.

Making their hero dish with egg-free noodles, every item is cooked fresh to order, whether you decide on chicken ramen, the signiture tonkotsu ramen (boiled in a 10-hour slow-cooked pork broth, immersing it entirely in its delicious flavours), or vegan ramen! If you’re about the heat, you can turn your dinner up by selecting the spicy option. Already regarded by locals as the best ramen outside of Japan, the soup is hot and silky, and the noodles are perfectly cooked.

While the menu is yet to be released, we’re imagining that they’ll be bringing along their favourites beyond ramen, including the Veggie Tempura, karaage (friend chicken), Japanese paella, and freshly-made Gyoza, as well as Teriyaki chicken bento, Takoyaki, tofu salad, spring rolls, wafu oysters, finger-licking edamame, or even the crab claws.

Shinya Ramen also serves alcoholic beverages including Japanese beer on tap, and a Traditional Sake bar inside the venue serving a large selection of Japan’s finest sake to complement your hot bowl of Ramen.

With the store set to open in one of Torquay’s main streets, the business has also revealed they’ll be opening in Geelong’s CBD at 7 Mclarty Place Geelong.

Previously housing the original Armageddon Cake Dessert Bar, the Geelong CBD location would be a welcomed addition to the famed central street.

We’ll report more on that one when we know more.

Shinya Ramen & Bar will be located at Shop10 4-6 Gilbert street, Torquay and 7 Mclarty Place, Geelong.

Open 7 days a week from 11am to late, choose to dine in or order takeaway. Check out Shinya’s Facebook and Website for more.
