Expect to find thrilling entertainment, tattoo competitions, merchandise, piercings, and on-the-spot tattoos, plus heaps more.

Melbourne is gearing up for an ink-splosive (oh yes we did) return of the Australian Tattoo Expo, the Southern Hemisphere’s grandest celebration of body art, boasting over 400 world-class tattoo artists.

From Friday, December 1, to Sunday, December 3 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the vibrant event promises an immersive experience for ink enthusiasts and curious souls alike.

Keep up with the latest in local news and entertainment here.

This iconic weekend-long expo delves into the diverse realm of tattoo and body art culture, offering a canvas for attendees to meet skilled artists and explore various genres, histories, trends, and techniques within the complex industry. Whether you’re a seasoned tattoo pro, an aspiring artist, or just someone with a deep appreciation for inked masterpieces, the Australian Tattoo Expo is designed to be a welcoming space for all.

The expo’s highlights include the CTAA Tattoo Competition Series, where artists from around the world compete for the prestigious “Tattoo of the Show” title. Unveiling the ugly underbelly of the tattoo world, the expo introduces the ‘Shittest Tattoo Competition,’ inviting participants to showcase their ink regrets for gasps and big laughs.

An international panel of judges, including Brazilian scar tattooing specialist Karlla Mendes, Italian black abstract artist Peste, and New York-based Khan Tattoo, adds a global touch to the celebration of body art. Attendees can even secure on-the-spot appointments with over 400 international and local artists, hailing from countries such as Japan, Taiwan, China, South Korea, USA, Indonesia, Sweden, and Australia.

For those feeling adventurous, the Dr Pickles Tattoo Glory Hole offers a spontaneous tattoo experience. Celebrity tattoo artist Lauren Winzer, renowned for inking Hollywood’s biggest names, will also be providing free walk-up flash tattoos throughout the weekend.

Beyond tattoos, the expo features exclusively curated exhibitors and entertainment. The Cheshire’s Grin crafts real gold grills and teeth, while professional body piercers enhance body art on-site. Entertainment includes Flux Entertainment’s breathtaking fire shows, local DJs on the main stage, and a dedicated kids’ corner for family fun.

Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in the Australian Tattoo Expo from December 1-3, 2023, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Get your tickets here.
