Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes (aka Australia’s Best Pies) has opened a store in South Geelong

Save that precious petrol, you can now get the best pie in the country in Geelong's CBD

Any Geelong local or general Victorian pie enthusiast knows Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes as one of the best (if not THE best) places to go to get your hands on a humble meat pie. Biting into one of their creations of flaky, buttery crust and getting a mouthful of juicy, piping hot goodness is nothing short of heaven.

Located in Ocean Grove, with stores in Leopold and Queenscliff, the esteemed bakery has given the pie-lovers of Geelong what they want, opening a brand-new store in South Geelong.

Officially opening on Wednesday, March 16, the new South Geelong store (the local businesses fifth!) has found itself a prime location, nestled inside Fagg’s Mitre 10 (at 1-9 Barwon Terrace).

A business that holds a dear spot in every serious foodie’s heart, at the kiosk style store you’ll find all the familiar favourites, including amazing Genovese coffee, cakes, slices, toasted Roti breads, toasties and sandwiches and of course, their pies baked to golden perfection. While you’re there, you can sit down and enjoy your goods and even pick up a hammer and a packet of screws thanks to the glorious new location. Move over Bunning sausages…

A mecca for the meat pie, Rolling Pin has made a name for itself over the past couple of years, taking out the much-coveted title of Australia’s Best Pie two years in a row.

In 2021, judges from Baking Association of Australia declared Ocean Grove’s Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes the winner of the coveted prize with their Surf & Turf pie, which they introduced back in October of 2020. Rolling Pin beat out 2031 entries from more than 300 Aussie bakeries across dozens of categories and three days of crucial taste testing and took the major title from reigning champion Country Cob bakery.

The winning pie was the combination of their award-winning chunky beef pie, with an added layer of prawns in rich garlic cream sauce. It’s a melting pot of prawny, garlicky, creamy goodness – and now you can get your hands on it in Geelong. *Screaming*

Going up against some of the best bakeries around the country, Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes also took out first place class prize in the Seafood Pie category, with medals awarded in the plain mince beef pie, chunky beef pie, poultry, gourmet, and flavoured beef pie categories.

Wait, we’re not done.

Back in November they also took out their 20th national title with a win in the Shepard’s Pie/Potato Top category at the 2021 Official Great Aussie Pie Competition for their Lamb, Minted Pea & Potato pie.

This all followed the bakery’s win in the 31st The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition in 2020 where they also took out the title for Best Meat Pie in Australia. The famous bakery has appeared on Channel Nine’s morning show Today and Postcards travel show, and featured in the Herald Sun’s ‘Victoria’s Top 100 Food Experiences’.

As if you need any more convincing. Go on, pick up a bunch of pies (and sausage rolls) and get on your merry way.

Rolling Pin Pies & Cakes is located at inside Fagg’s Mitre 10 (1-9 Barwon Terrace). Locals can also indulge in the award-winning pie from Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes in Leopold, Ocean Grove and Queenscliff. Find out more info here.
