Geelong’s Little Creatures to host ‘100 Mile Dinner’, showcasing local food through a unique dining experience

The hyper-local meal is a chance for LC to show off the region’s food and beverage bounty.

It’s time to celebrate delicacies closer to home with this unique dining experience heading to Little Creatures next week – the 100 Mile Dinner.

Celebrated worldwide, the 100-mile dinner, in which each ingredient of the menu is sourced from within a 100-mile radius, boosts local farms, promotes a more environmentally sustainable food system, and inspires strictly seasonal eating.

Delivering a journey of discovery of sorts in the bright and bold Little Creatures Canteen and based on the idea that “what we do today, impacts tomorrow”, guests will be guided by a knowledgeable Craft Beer Ambassador and treated to a canapé and beer on arrival followed by a three-course, locally sourced menu, matched to some of the amazing Little Creatures beers.

“If we are concerned about the environment, the climate and sustainability in our homes and communities, it makes sense to bring these conversations into the workplace. At Little Creatures, we are hoping to show the hospitality industry that change can happen but it has to start somewhere. We are proud to be part of this change,” says Stephen Shing, Executive Chef, Little Creatures Brewing.

Luckily for us, the neighbouring towns of Portarlington, Mount Moriac, Drysdale and Barongarook all fall within the bracket of 100 miles (AKA 160 km) of the beloved Geelong brewery, inspiring a vibrant and tantalising menu for the evening.

At a glance, the canape will include Sea Bounty Portarlington Mussel, Four Pillars Gin, tomato, samphire, paired with Little Creature’s Pacific Ale, alongside Zeally Bay Sourdough, Mount Moriac olives and olive oil to ease you into the evening.

The entree includes Castle Estate Kangaroo Carpaccio, pepper berry crumble and saltbush paired with a pale ale, while the main meal will highlight Barongarook Pork, served alongside roast pear, parsnip, green beans, Mount Prospect hassel back potatoes, paired with a hazy IPA.

For dessert, guests will indulge in Drysdale goats curd, figs, Winchelsea honey with a Little Creatures, Freo Vice, Raspberry Sour Ale. Delicious!

As part of the event, the brewery is supporting Shuck don’t Chuck, one of Australia’s most innovative, eco-friendly projects, and guests will hear from the team and learn how you can get involved.

“Little Creatures was the first hospitality venue in Australia to join the ‘Shuck Don’t Chuck’ project and has been an amazing partner and supporter for the past seven years,” says  Simon Branigan, Operations Manager – Oceans, The Nature Conservancy Australia.

“The mussel shells recycled from Little Creatures for the past seven years have contributed to the restoration of 5 hectares of shellfish reefs in Geelong, which are providing cleaner water, and more fish and habitat for many other species.

“The 100 Mile Dinner is a fantastic Little Creatures initiative, not only for the unique dining experience on offer, but also for the opportunity to hear more about the award-winning ‘Shuck Don’t Chuck’ project and how to get involved.”

The Little Creatures 100 Mile Dinner will be held at the Little Creatures Brewing, 221 Swanston Street, Geelong, on March 24 at 6.30pm.
