There's 100 exhibitions including 29 outdoor installations and 71 exhibitions in museums and galleries happening across 7 Melbourne precincts and 5 cities in regional Victoria.

Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of captivating imagery as PHOTO 2024 International Festival of Photography returns for its third edition.

Spanning across Melbourne and regional Victoria throughout March, this month-long festival boasts a staggering lineup of 110 events over four weekends, promising to dazzle audiences with thought-provoking art and striking visuals.

From the bustling streets of Melbourne to the tranquil landscapes of regional Victoria, PHOTO 2024 presents an art trail of 100 free exhibitions and outdoor installations, inviting visitors to explore the power of photography and its ability to shape our understanding of the world. With a focus on the theme ‘The Future Is Shaped by Those Who Can See It’, the festival delves into the possible and parallel futures that lie ahead, exploring how current actions are influencing the world of tomorrow.

Founder and Artistic Director Elias Redstone explains, “The world has changed immeasurably in recent years and what lies ahead is far from certain. At PHOTO 2024, visionary artists and photographers are sharing their insights of the world as it is today to raise questions about what lies in store for us tomorrow.”

Featuring over 150 contemporary photographers and artists from Australia and around the globe, PHOTO 2024 showcases a diverse range of perspectives and styles. Highlights include exclusive presentations by renowned artists such as Ryan McGinley, Omar Victor Diop, Carmen Winant, Edward Burtynsky, and Cao Fei, among others. The festival also pays homage to Icons of Photography, including Nan Goldin, Malick Sidibé, and Rennie Ellis.

From large-scale outdoor displays at iconic locations across Melbourne to immersive exhibitions at leading galleries and cultural institutions, PHOTO 2024 offers a wealth of experiences for photography enthusiasts. Highlights include Nan Goldin’s landmark series ‘The Ballad of Sexual Dependency’ at the Art Gallery of Ballarat, an immersive exhibition reimagining Rennie Ellis’s image archive at State Library Victoria, and the Australian premiere of Malian photographer Malick Sidibé’s work.

In addition to exhibitions and installations, PHOTO 2024 presents a dynamic events program featuring tours, talks, film screenings, and workshops. Four focus weekends allow photography lovers of all levels to participate, from Opening Weekend celebrations to stimulating discussions on the future of photography at the Ideas Weekend.
