OK Smash returns, bringing burgers, hotdogs and beers back to Little Malop Street

OK Smash is the Michael Jordan of Geelong's burger scene.

Arguably one of the best things to come out of 2020, our burger-loving selves haven’t felt real joy since OK Smash closed up shop back in June last year.

Thanks to renowned Igni and Hot Chicken Project chef-restaurateur Aaron Turner, who also opened up Tacos y Liquor that same eventful year, OK Smash was a brilliant pop-up retro sports bar specialising in cheeseburgers and champagne.

Keep up with the latest food and booze news via our website.

Running as an old-school pop-up concept boasting a simple yet delicious menu, the pop-up inevitably finished its run and since then, the business has been busy searching for a permanent location to set up shop and settle in for the long haul.

Now burger lovers of Geelong can feel joy once more, with the official opening of Ok Smash, returning to the humble street where it all began.

Moving into the space next door to their previous location, now at 88 Little Malop Street (previously Clove 7 Indian Restaurant and Bar), OK Smash is the newest dive bar in Geelong’s CBD serving up killer burgers, hot dogs and delicious beer on tap.

As expected when it comes to Aaron Turner, this space was made for good times.

Inside, you’re greeted by a gritty fit-out with neon signage and fairy lights strung up over the bar. The room is immersed in a subtle blue glow, with stools at the bar, tables lining one side of the intimate restaurant and a quirky red-light fixture hanging over the front of the bar.

As for the menu, the burger goodness has evolved and expanded with a new larger menu. Serving up double patties, you fill find the OG Classic Cheeseburger (beef, American cheese, pickles, ketchup and mustard) and Oklahoma Smash Cheeseburger (beef, American cheese, onions, pickles and sauce), alongside new additions the mushroom cheeseburger and the Slugburger circa 1917. Served with fries, you can even up the ante and add on an extra patty or two for a couple of extra dollars. Bar the Slugburger which is $15, these works of burger art are all $22.

Having already perfected the art of whipping up mean burgers from scratch that will have you licking your fingers for days with Hot Chicken Project, rest assured you’ll be treated to the same consistency and high quality from the team with these beef burgers, making each bun-wrapped treat a delight.

If you’re here for the hot dogs, there are three different wieners that you can relish, all served with fries: The Chicago dog, the Chilli Dog and the Ballpark Dog.

You’ll also find chicken and fish sandwiches which come packed with ranch slaw, pickles and either mustard or cheese and diner sauce, depending on what meat you ordered.

Rounding out this boisterous menu, you’ve got fries, slaw and potato salad as a side, plus a bloomin’ onion and waffle fries for when you’re feeling snacky. Oh, and these legends are even serving dessert, with a seasonal pie and whipped cream to truly cap off your evening.

Worshipping the food of the Gods, OK. Smash is here to satisfy our hunger cravings and undying affection for meat in a bun… you won’t regret checking them out.

OK. Smash is located at 88 Little Malop Street, Geelong and is open Wednesday and Thursday from 4pm-10pm, and Friday to Sunday from 12pm to 10pm. Call 0352215041
