Norlane’s New $65.6M Aquatic and Community Hub to open in February

Words by Staff Writer

With state-of-the-art facilities, the Northern Aquatic and Community Hub will be a vibrant space for leisure and recreation activities, cultural and health programs, and community events.

The much-anticipated Northern Aquatic and Community Hub has wrapped up construction, preparing to welcome eager visitors through its doors next month. With a price tag of $65.6 million, this aquatic and community centre promises to be a game-changer for the northern suburbs.

Come 19 February, Norlane locals can dip their toes into the state-of-the-art facility, and memberships are already up for grabs. But before the grand public opening, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is in the cards on 9 February, featuring government funding partners and setting the stage for the Webstar’s Swim School Program to kick off on 12 February.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

Kane Constructions, working tirelessly, handed over the completed complex just days before Christmas, passing the baton to the City’s Swim, Sport and Leisure team for the final touches.

The Northern Aquatic and Community Hub boasts an impressive array of features, including lap pools, waterplay areas, waterslides, warm water pools, a spa, steam room, and more. With a mezzanine-level gym offering a view of the aquatic facilities (also offering group exercise, reformer pilates and cycle studios), a large community performance hall, childcare facilities, health consulting suites, and extensive landscaped outdoor spaces, it’s poised to become a focal point for the community.

Funded by a collaborative effort from the Council ($48.84 million), the Victorian Government ($8.5 million), and the Australian Government ($8.26 million), the hub replaces the former Waterworld and Centenary Hall facilities, marking a new era for the corner of Cox Road and the Princes Highway.

To add to the excitement, the City plans to host a free community open day shortly after the public opening, serving as the Swim, Sport and Leisure team’s Summer of Fun finale event. Stay tuned for details! There’s also a pre-sale offer of 15% off memberships at the new centre that will end Wednesday 31 January.

While the ‘Northern Aquatic and Community Hub’ is a working title, public consultation on four proposed new names is open now via the Your Say page.
