Local Geelong artists pay tribute to iconic women in art for International Women’s Day

'Like A Version 2.0' is a new group exhibition from Geelong Illustrators celebrating iconic Women in Art.

International Women’s Day is fast approaching this year. Universally celebrated on March 8, this day is dedicated to promoting equality and celebrating women’s achievements, while also looking at what we can do to continue doing so in the future to help forge a gender-equal world.

Championing a world where difference is valued and celebrated, Geelong Illustrators is helping spread positive International Women’s Day messages across our local community with a new group art exhibition “Like A Version 2.0”.

Within this exhibition, the collective of artists from Geelong and surrounds will recreate artworks by well-known women artists, adding their own style and techniques to make it their own.

In 2021, Geelong Illustrators members decided to pay homage to iconic artists with Like A Version; recreating some of the world’s most famous artworks in their own unique styles. Bringing it back for a second round, this year is all about highlighting women in art – women who create change and transform the world one project at a time, using their art to connect with people.

“This year we decided to revisit the theme, with one key difference; all the well-known artists are WOMEN! By coincidence, all the artists in our last Like A Version were by famous male artists, so what better way to change it up by choosing our favourite female artists, and open on International Women’s Day,” says Clare Holder, Geelong Illustrators Manager.

Renowned as a community group of artists from Geelong and surrounds with the aim to inspire each other to high standards of creativity and uplift each other with mutual support, Geelong Illustrators Like A Version 2.0 exhibition not only shines a light on famed women artists but also has the potential to boost its artists own creative practice, simply by trying  something different and exploring other artists styles. The important thing is they make it unique to them!

Like A Version 2.0 opens this International Women’s Day Tuesday 8th March. Head down from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Geelong Illustrators  Studio Gallery, 105 Moorabool Street Geelong to celebrate with the artists.

The exhibition will run Tuesday 8th March – Saturday 2nd April.
