Listen out for… Dylan McCoy

Thanks for chatting with us today! Can you introduce yourself?

My name is  Dylan  McCoy and I am a musician from Fremantle, Western Australia.

You’re stuck on a desert island with a CD player and only ONE CD, what would it be?

I love vocal harmonies, they give me a real sense of soothing which would be quite a handy way to feel while in such isolation. Woodface by Crowded House would act as a form of escapism but I think something like For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver would both quench my thirst for harmonies as well as remind me that something truly beautiful can be born in exile.

Describe your current EP

The EP, Love Like That, is a body of work that reflects my life narrative over the last few years. It’s about re-discovering the former me while reminding myself of how scary, yet wonderful love is. While it touches on some upsetting subjects thematically, it has an overall feeling of hope. The songs were all written in my bedroom, starting with only my guitar and voice. They were then turned into the full band version with help from Cam, Perry and Kathy.

Where can we see you play?
The best place to see me play would be around the traps in Freo. I like to keep it pretty local.

If you could share the stage with one other artist, who would it be and why?
Tough question. I love playing with my current band – they are all exceptional musicians. However, if I was to choose someone else, I would have to say Alicia Keys. I think she is such a powerful vocalist who commands the attention of her audience. To be able to sing alongside her would be huge dream. Kimbra would be good too. I have a bit of a crush on her.

Release: ‘Love Like That’ is out now and can be found on Spotify, Itunes and Triple J Unearthed.
