Kim Churchill announces his biggest ever Australian tour

“Each show will be a beautiful night of storytelling, an honest reflection on life as we live it, and a romping high energy one-man band show.”

After strumming his way through Europe and Canada, folk’s own award-winning Kim Churchill has returned home to find solace in the new single “Come Back Free”, a forthcoming album and his biggest-ever Australian tour.

Touring his seventh studio album, Dawn Sounds, set for release on 13 January 2023, Kim will take to 44 locations across the country in 2022 and 2023. The Dawn Sounds tour will kick off at Milbi Festival on October 30, travel across the country and finish up at Moruya Blues & Roots Festival on March 25 next year. Locally, Kim will perform in Phillip Island, Warrnambool, Portland, Castlemaine, Koroit, Rye and Melbourne.

Promising to be a wholesome and captivating evening of storytelling and sing-alongs, Kim is bringing his beloved folk anthems and new gems from the upcoming album Dawn Sounds. Kim says, “Each show will be a beautiful night of storytelling, an honest reflection on life as we live it, and a romping high energy one-man band show.”

The 11 track album the tour is celebrating will feature already released singles “Fighter” and “Please Come Home” along with the brand new “Come Back Free”. Warmed by a hushed rhythmic pulse and rich in earthy- acoustic tones, the surf-soaked single is a reassuring anthem of hope.

Finding clarity in the face of life’s obstacles, Kim’s grounded story-telling hits home with triumphant lines like “Staring at my fears in the back of the rear-vision mirror”.

Kim reflects on what “Come Back Free” means to him; “The single is about putting yourself out there and getting back up when it doesn’t work out. The mark of a life well lived is failure and lots of it! It’s an integral part of figuring out who you are and what you do well and how to feel well. I’ve been learning that the most important thing is the joy you feel when you let go of failure and embrace it as an important part of the process of life.”

Landing on the scene in 2009, Kim’s laidback folk style continues to strike a chord with industry and fans alike. Playing renowned festivals including Glastonbury Music Festival, Montreal’s International Jazz Festival and South By South West, along with a stack of home grown festivals, Kim’s decade long industry experience spreads far and wide. Raised on the coastal town of Merimbula, the songwriter was previously crowned Australia’s National Youth Folk Artist of the Year and nominated for the National Live Music Awards Roots Act of the Year.

“Come Back Free” is available Friday 28 October wherever you consume good music.
