Australia's only cheese train has officially opened in Geelong.
Nothing can get cheddar than this. Since announcing its plans for opening back in February in 2021, we (and we assume the lot of you) have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Geelong’s cheese train bar/restaurant.
Spawned by Geelong local business Splatters, one of our favourite online grazing stores, Geelong’s new late-night ‘cheese worshipping’ restaurant and bar opened its doors on Pakington Street after almost a year in the works, becoming home to Australia’s very first ‘cheese train’.

Transforming the former pharmacy on Pakington Street into an immaculately styled venue, Splatters is all about helping locals indulge in the world of Brie, blue, and burrata in a thriving and central location,
Sporting a bright yellow sign, exposed brick walls, cheese grater pendant lights (amazing we know), yellow couches and bar stools, a central bar, a killer playlist, live music and an epic 20m conveyor belt, the venue is ideal for any occasion.
Functioning just like a sushi train, punters take a seat bar side for them to gaze longingly into the perpetually rotating belt of cheesy goodness where you can browse more than 75 plates of cheese, mouth-watering charcuterie and accompaniments. Each plate will set you back between $5 and $14, unless you head on in on Thursdays where you can get unlimited plates for just $79, or during Happy Hour on Fridays for $6 plates. There will be more than 75 different combinations to choose from – and yes, there will be vegan cheese on offer!
Better still, it’s licensed, so you can pair your cheese with a cocktail, beers, spirits, or a glass of red or white.
And while all-you-can-eat cheese and a cheese train may not be for everyone, cheese-lovers can still head in without a booking to indulge in the dining room or grab a cheese board and sit outside in the beautiful Garden of Edam. With yellow stools, wine barrels and umbrellas, this spacious and cheesy outdoor oasis is perfect for late-night cheese and wine dates and is open until late.
Come June and the venue will also be launching fondue Fridays, and more recently they’ve been teaming up with famed dessert Kings Bear and Scoobs for dessert nights, so there’s a lot to love about this cheesy haven.

While it’s huge news for Geelong’s foodie scene, it’s also a pretty big deal across Australia, with the cheese-train aspect being a nation’s first. It’s reported that the first venue in the world with a ‘sushi train’ dedicated exclusively to cheese opened in London in 2019.
We’re pretty much on board with anything dedicated to the fromagerie, but a cheese train? We’ve literally died and gone to heaven.
