For the celebration of the national saint of one small but beautiful country, St Patrick’s Day found its way far beyond Ireland’s borders to become a worldwide, annual event.
Traditionally a dry holiday, Irish law (between 1903 and 1970) made St. Patrick’s Day a religious holiday for the entire country, which meant pubs were closed for the day, according to Catholic Online. Today, however, St. Patrick’s Day is one of the largest drinking holidays with an estimated $245 million spent on beer for the day in Ireland – been one of the most celebrated events in the world.

Elephant & Castle St.Patrick’s Day Party
The Elephant & Castle Hotel will once again be hosting its annual party to celebrate the life of Ireland’s favourite saint.
Anything green or gold, shamrocks and luck, and of course, Guinness represents St Patrick’s day – and this beloved pub party is sure to have all of it. Running from 11:30am right up until 9:30pm, local revellers are encouraged raise a pint to this famous Irish holiday. Along with the cold Guinness, Irish food and free entry, the party will be featuring live entertainment from Intrepid Soul for the whole day in the main bar, as well as an Irish acoustic set from Just Phil in the Beer Garden (5 to 9pm).

The Deck St. Paddy’s Day Party
Since its killer makeover a couple of years ago, The Deck on Gheringhap Street has quickly become a favourite amongst locals looking for a cold beer, quality meal and decent tunes to see them through the week.
Known to host one helluva party, the crew at The Deck are colouring the day green tomorrow with a party of their own.
Running from 9pm ’til late this Thursday, The Deck will be delivering all the good vibes with delicious drink specials. $4 Green Sunrises, $6 green beers, $6 Midori lemonades and $6 Somersby schooners. Everyone’s favourite Irish Seccy will be judging best dressed on the door (wear green for cheap entry), and pre-sale tickets are available now for even cheaper entry.

Murphys St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day has been a day of celebration since the 17th century – and every year on March 17th, the Irish, or Irish lovers join in on festivities that colour the day green.
If you’re on the hunt for one of the best St. Paddy’s events across our region this year, you can’t go past Murphys in Geelong. Previous named Irish Murphys, the pub has had a long history with the Irish, transforming into different venues but ultimately returning to its Irish roots. Priding itself on having the best Guinness in Geelong, as well as celebrating authentic Irish culture, where better to partake in the celebrations than Geelong’s original and only Irish pub?

If you’re looking for a day in Ocean Grove for St Patrick’s Day, BrewiColo Brewery should be the top of your list.
Opening back in 2018 by the combined powers of local lass Kay Godfrey and her partner Chilla, the was born from the love of beer, and the sentiment of bringing something new and refreshing to the Ocean Grove community.
