‘Go Cats’ projections will light up Geelong’s City Hall in the lead up to the grand final

They've done it!

Geelong are just one win away from an elusive AFL premiership after coming out of last night’s preliminary final with a 71-point win against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG. Following an incredibly impressive season and a 15-game winning streak from the Cats, the team booked their second grand final appearance in three seasons by winning 18.12 (120) to 7.7 (49) in front of 77,677 fans.

Geelong will now go through to the 2022 AFL Grand Final on the 24 September against either Sydney Swans or Collingwood (decided tonight!). Last night’s game marked the Cats’ sixth preliminary final since 2013, but they have not won a flag since 2011 and their only grand final appearance in that period was a loss to Richmond in 2020.

To celebrate the local team, the City of Greater Geelong will be getting into the spirit by lighting up the City, beginning with projections across Geelong’s City Hall.

From 8pm Tuesday 20, Wednesday 21, and Friday 23 September, City Hall will be lit with ‘Go Cats’ projections, adding to the array of blue and white spread across the City.

This is just the beginning. Expect to see decorated storefronts, houses, and cars over the next week.

It’s an exciting time for the regional city! Go cats!
