Geelong’s cocktail and dessert bar Sweet Cheeks has closed, restaurant to open in its place

Moving from Newcomb, Silver Spoon is slated to take over the venue.

Following on from the devastating news that iconic venue The Hop Inn has closed its doors this week, we’ve also learned of another closure in the Geelong region sure to devastate sweet tooths and cocktail lovers alike.

Having only just reopened its doors in 2022 after a devastating fire the year prior, the beloved bright pink rooftop bar Sweet Cheeks Cocktail & Dessert Lounge has quietly closed its doors.

Keep up with the latest food and booze news across the region here.

There have been no formal announcements made from the business itself, though they’ve made no posts to social media since October and the website and phone line are now disconnected.

What we have got though is an announcement from Silver Spoon, a Pakistani and Indian cuisine restaurant in Geelong.

The restaurant, which was originally located at Shop 24 71 Bellarine Hwy Newcomb, Geelong and operating as a cafeteria, has been closed since October 26 for renovation. While originally slated to reopen in November, the restaurant then revealed on social media its brand new location, right in the heart of Geelong. Sharing an image of the iconic rooftop bar first, the Silver Spoon then posted images of their new signage in late December.

Taking over Sweet Cheeks’ venue, at 71 Yarra Street Geelong, Silver Spoon has indicated it will operate as a restaurant and party hall.

Specialising in rich, spicy and ultimately satisfying Pakistani food and traditional Indian dishes, Silver Spoon takes you on a culinary experience like no other. Think beef curry, chicken Karahi, Aloo Matar, Daal Makhni, butter chicken, Jalabi, Samosa, Naan, Halwa Puri, chicken biryani, papdam, plus so much more.

While it’s an exciting venture for Silver Spoon, the loss of Sweet Cheeks and a destination for late-night desserts and delicious cocktails will be sorely missed from the Geelong CBD. This place was practically made for summer nights out with the squad (especially those nights where you want to inflict Instagram envy upon your followers!).

With to-die-for desserts and a deliciously oasis for a rooftop bar, the venue was on cloud nine until a fire ripped through the building back in March of 2021. Causing serious damage beyond immediate repair to the entire rooftop and other parts of the building, the venue – which also included Parma Bar on the first floor – was forced to close its doors indefinitely. The venue then reopened in early 2022 with a swathe of repairs and upgrades to the decor and facilities until it closed in the later half of 2022.

We’ll miss those White Choc Passions that’s for sure.

No further updates have been given so watch this space for more.
