Cosmic Psychos celebrate 40th Anniversary with massive Australian Tour

Words by Staff Writer

It’s Cosmic Psychos’ 40th anniversary and they are celebrating it the best way they know how - with a big bloody tour of Australia.

It’s a milestone that few punk bands ever reach, but the legendary Cosmic Psychos are proudly celebrating their 40th anniversary, and they’re doing it in style.

The Australian punk rock icons have announced an epic tour that will take them all over the land Down Under. But that’s not all – they’re bringing along the seminal US hardcore band ZEKE to join the party.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

The Cosmic Psychos’ journey through the world of punk rock has been nothing short of spectacular. For 40 years, the Cosmic Psychos have been spreading the gospel of cans with their quintessential Australian punk rock sound. Their longevity is truly remarkable, and they’ve left an indelible mark on the punk rock scene. Having released ten studio albums and established close relationships with industry heavyweights like producer Butch Vig and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, the Cosmic Psychos have shown no signs of slowing down.

To mark this momentous occasion, they are embarking on a tour that will kick off before Christmas in South Australia and Western Australia, and then really hit its stride in January when they rock the East Coast. But here’s the real kicker – they will be joined by none other than the legendary US hardcore band ZEKE. This marks the first time ZEKE has ventured Down Under in over two decades, making this tour one for the history books.

Before they hit the road in earnest, the Cosmic Psychos are throwing a massive birthday bash in Castlemaine. The Theatre Royal will be the place to be from December 1 to 3, as the Psychos have rounded up an impressive lineup of their favourite bands to create a wild weekend of music and mayhem. Each night, a different headliner will take the stage.

On Friday, December 1, the Sunny Coast punks and the Psychos’ protégés, The Chats, will lead an impressive lineup of Victoria’s finest. Saturday, December 2, sees the mighty Amyl and the Sniffers take the spotlight with a huge bill featuring international and interstate guests. Finally, on Sunday, December 3, the rowdy Brissy trio Dune Rats will close out the bender at Knighty’s local.

But the party doesn’t stop there. For those looking to keep the good times rolling, official after-parties will take place at Love Shack, featuring DJ sets from Magic Dirt, Thee Cha Cha Chas, and Bad Dreems. Whether you’re planning to attend for a day or stay for the whole weekend, you better act fast because tickets are flying off the shelves. The Saturday show is already completely sold out, as are the weekend passes. Low ticket warnings are in effect for the remaining shows, so don’t miss out.

After their Castlemaine festivities, the Cosmic Psychos will head off to South Australia and Western Australia to squeeze in some shows before Christmas. Then, in 2024, they’ll launch into a new year of mayhem with a jaunt down the East Coast, accompanied by the seminal Seattle band ZEKE. Formed in 1993, ZEKE has built a formidable reputation as “the live band to beat” thanks to relentless touring and electrifying stage performances.

From small bars to stadiums, ZEKE has shared the stage with anyone who would have them, and their stage antics are the stuff of legends. With six records under their belt, ZEKE’s high-energy blend of early American hardcore, classic rock, and punk nihilism promises to be an unforgettable addition to the tour.
