This one-of-a-kind, national secondary school comedy competition encourages teenagers with a talent for comedy to unleash their comic voice through stand-up, sketch, musical or physical comedy.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s annual search for Australia’s funniest teen, Class Clowns, returns to Geelong Arts Centre for 2023, shining a light on young, comedic talent on Tuesday 21 February in Limelight Studio 4

Open to those aged 14-18, the free, oneofakind, national comedy competition is here to encourage teenagers of the G21 region to unleash their comedic voice through stand- up, sketch, musical or physical comedy.

Keep up with the latest in local news and entertainment here.

To be in the running for the national Comedy Clown crown, participants are required to prepare 3-5 minutes of original comedy material of any genre.

Competitors may enter individually or in groups of up to three people.

From 4pm to 6pm, competitors will attend a free two-hour workshop where they will have the opportunity to rehearse and refine their act with the help of a professional comedian before the performance heats. Then from 7pm to 8pm, comedy lovers are invited to preview the next generation of Australian comedians as the Class Clowns prodigies take the stage to share their freshly finessed acts

The funniest entrants of the night will be invited to continue to climb the comedy ladder at the state finals, with the winners invited to participate in the National Grand Final during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival! The winner will earn themselves a $1,500 cash prize, as well as a workshop package for their school

In addition to workshop and performance opportunities, all registered Class Clowns participants are provided with access to expert advice through an exclusive series of videos from some of Australia’s funniest folk filled with tips and tricks to help get budding performers started on their comedy journey.

For over 25 years, Class Clowns has played a huge part in helping hundreds of young people develop their comedy potential. Past Class Clowns participants include Joel Creasey, Annie Louey, Rhys Nicholson, Aaron Chen and William McKenna, all of which have gone on to highly acclaimed careers in showbiz
