Award-winning bakery in Ocean Grove just got inducted into the Great Aussie Pie Hall of Fame

Ocean Grove’s Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes also took home five gold medals and one silver at the 33rd Official Great Aussie Pie Competition.

Paying homage to Aussie’s much-loved icon, the perfect pie, the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition has just returned for its 33rd year, crowning a local bakery as its top champion.

The very well-known, award-winning Ocean Grove’s Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes took on hundreds of bakeries from all over Australia yesterday to compete for the most sought-after Great Australian Pie Awards and proved themselves worthy once again, coming home with multiple awards.

Keep up with the latest food and booze news across the region here.

Established by John Ross and Craig Perry in 1989, The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition runs every year in September at Fine Food Australia.

With thousands of entries from more than a bunch of Aussie bakeries across dozens of categories and three days of crucial taste testing, the judges declared Ocean Grove’s Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes the winner of the best seafood pie in the country with their famed ‘Surf ‘n’ Turf, the winner of the best red meat pie with their ‘Lamb and Rosemary’ pie, as well as five gold medals for the likes of their chunky mince, plain mince pie, Thai red curry pie, lamb and rosemary pie, amd the surf ‘n’ turf, with a silver medal awarded for their creamy mushroom and truffle – a pie that recently took out the top prize at another competition.

While they’ll have to expand the trophy cabinet, or at this stage just dedicate an entire room to their winnings, the beloved bakery has also been inducted into the competition’s Hall of Fame! What an amazing accomplishment for the team!

Located in Ocean Grove, with stores in Leopold and Queenscliff and just recently South Geelong, this proud locally owned and family business has been dishing out the best pie and pastries since 1997, when Ocean Grove locals Geoff and Susie Chalker took ownership of Rolling Pin Pies & Cakes.

Geoff and Susie’s dream of a true family run business was realised when their daughter Kristy joined them in 2004 and much to their delight, the team expanded to include their other daughter Stacey, and their two sons-in-law Nathan Williams (now Rolling Pin manager) and Todd Lincoln.  Their five grandchildren are the official taste testers – lucky humans.

Locals can indulge in the award-winning pie from Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes in Leopold, Ocean Grove, South Geelong and Queenscliff. Find out more info here.
