Anti Fade Records – one of Australia’s best-loved independent labels – found itself displaced this week following a fire that broke out at its Melbourne headquarters, decimating at least one room, a number of stock and some instruments.

Billy Gardner, the label’s manager, broke the news in an Instagram post on Monday (April 19), and after receiving an overwhelming number of messages of support and assistance from fans, has now unveiled limited-edition fundraiser tees to allow fans to contribute to the label’s recovery.
The shirt, available in both black and white, parades a pretty rad self-deprecating design of a room on fire with the slogan ‘Don’t Play With Fire’, courtesy of garage-punk savant and shrewd designer Buz Clatworthy, AKA the mastermind behind R.M.F.C.
Tees are $30 with profits going towards replacing stock, instruments and personal items belonging to Gardner and his housemate Henry, with the HQ located within Gardner’s home. Costs of the first 50 shirts were covered by the good people over at Sound Merch, a Melbourne-based screen-printing, band t-shirt supply and music merch company.
“Anti Fade fundraiser t-shirt is now live to raise money after the spare / storage room at my house tragically caught ablaze on Monday,” Gardner shared in an Instagram post.
“Huge thanks to EVERYONE for the support this week. It’s been wild.”
Originally formed right here in Geelong, Anti Fade Records has become Australia’s best export for garage, punk, shoegaze and psych, home to artists such as Constant Mongrel, Primo!, Exek, Alien Nosejob, Parsnip, Bananagun and Vintage Crop. It’s also the label responsible for Jerkfest, a local one-day festival held at the Barwon Club celebrating all things punk, shoegaze and psych and featuring a stacked line-up of local bands.
