'Mullets For Mental Health' is raising awareness and much-needed funds for the Black Dog Institute.

It’s time to shine Geelong.

After gaining traction in the late ’70s and peaking in the ’80s, the mullet became one of the most iconic hairstyles of all time. While this short at the front, long at the back haircut has had its fair share of jokes, we’ve seen it slowly making its way back into fashion in recent times.

Suited to men to those you aren’t afraid to stray from the crowd and don’t take themselves too seriously, there’s now a very, very good reason to get yourself one of these majestic hairstyles thanks to the good humans over at The Deck in Geelong.

Teaming up with The Streets Barbershop, The Deck are running a new event, ‘Mullets For Mental Health’, on Sunday, May 30 in the name of raising awareness and much-needed funds the Black Dog Institute.

The key takeaways

  • The Deck Geelong is hosting a fundraiser for the Black Dog Institute
  • With the help of the Streets Barbershop, they’ll be cutting mullets all day in exchange for donations
  • The event aims to reduce the stigma of mental health, start a conversation, and drive real change through ground-breaking research into early detection, prevention and treatment of common mental health disorders

Keep up with the latest in local events and entertainment via our website.

The institute is a not-for-profit mental health medical research organisation, with a vision of a mentally healthier world. Conducting world-class research, the team at Black Dog Institute investigates the causes of mental illness and drives evidence-based treatments and solutions that improve lives, specialising in suicide prevention, e-mental health, workplace mental health, novel treatments and prevention in young people.

With an aim to reduce the stigma of mental health, start a conversation, and drive real change through ground-breaking research into early detection, prevention and treatment of common mental health disorders, this event is just one simple way to help and raise money for the organisation.

To help you shape your best Billy Ray Cyrus inspired mullet, some of the best barbers from The Streets Barbershop (a thriving hub of social action guided by The Streets Barber Nasir Sobhani who gained popularity for his selfless dedication to cutting hair for the homeless) will be on the tools, providing the freshest mullet cuts a charitable donation can buy.

Even if you can’t afford to chip in anything, the team are encouraging anyone and everyone to get involved and bring along the good energy on the day.

The Deck will also be running their usual Slickback Sunday specials with cheap tasty bites and delicious drinks in case you needed any more incentive to jump on the mullet bandwagon.

If you’re ready to become a mullet legend, head on down to The Deck on Sunday, May 30. Check out the event here for more info.
