What’s on Ballarat?

Almost a month of 2016 has flown by and lots has been happening in the Rat, namely the Ballarat Beer Festival, which again, was a huge success.

Another great venue has opened in town to satisfy beer lovers. The Hop Temple has recently opened at the rear of 24-28 Armstrong Street in the heart of Ballarat. Just to mention a few of the stylish brews on tap are Little Creatures Dog Days Summer Ale, Yenda Golden Ale, Lucky Pier Ginger Beer, Pipsqueak Cider and Brooklyn Lager. The décor has a relaxed retro feel about it and the food is brilliant with burgers, share plates and even a good old fashioned jaffle can be found on the menu. Get down there with your friends and soak up the atmosphere and I might just see you there. Congratulations to brewer Clayton Morrison who won best homebrew at the Ballarat Beer Festival with his Boomtown Brown. I`m sure the Hop Temple can accommodate you with a 6 pack if you so desire.

On the music scene, Karova Lounge will host melodic death metal outfit Hollow World on February 4 and it`s only 10 bucks to get in, so you can get down and bang your head until your heart is content. Also, local lads Kuchi Kopi will grace the stage on Friday February 19. Have a squiz at their debut single/video clip ‘Moon Head’. Filmed down at 13th Beach it`s a bizarre little clip, but the song is a catchy little number with its bright uplifting energy and groovy pop sound. Really solid debut single. Make sure you get along to this gig and support a local group doing great things.

The Royal Hotel in Meredith has Mental As Anything playing in the beer garden on February 21. Tickets are $48 each and it will be a top afternoon in the sleepy town on the Midland Highway. The band debuted way back in 1976, so a fabulous effort to still be playing shows around the country.

Down at Suttons House Of Music, rockabilly will take a hold on the weekend of 13th ,14th,15th of Feb with The Infernos, Sun Rising (tribute band) and the Rechords rounding out a wicked line up for Doc Martin wearing folk to swing their way through a tasty lineup of artists.

Make the most of the sunshine and great live acts that are coming to town folks.
