Video Premiere: Sirens immerse you into a mystical world with new single ‘Absence of Pleasure’

Bellarine-based four-piece Sirens unveil video for new single 'Absence Of Pleasure'

Bringing together a combination of psychedelic, progressive rock and dream pop music that makes you feel instantly immersed in their world, Sirens share a new video for their second single, ‘Absence of Pleasure’, building on that magical blend of genres and delivering an infectiously raw narrative and dreamy soundscape.

In the three-minute track, Sirens encompass that relatable and all-consuming feeling of what being in an unhealthy friendship or relationship can feel like. Beginning with a catchy harmonic hook, they beautifully lure the listener in with ethereal vocals before transitioning into a vibrant punk bridge. The juxtaposition of the bubbly chorus and the raucous yells sets the unsettling mood; not all is well and this isn’t your regular pop song.

Forever evolving and reshaping, in a ballerina-box spotlight moment another melody is introduced, building the tension and confusion in the most perfect way. Sirens unleash a tremendously high energy finale with crashes, drum rolls and an exciting organ solo, leaving you in awe of the band’s limitless energy.

Filmed on Wathaurong Country, the music video is visually striking and beautifully chaotic, immersing viewers inside a forest where they sing freely while transitioning from scenes of day and night; an intimate window into the mystical world of Sirens. A compelling video for their second single, ‘Absence Of Pleasure’ encourages the listener to reject toxicity and literally ‘say goodbye’ with their lush layered harmonies, while also reflecting on the constant change throughout life and self, and contemplating the idea that great release can follow an absence of pleasure.

Lifted from their debut self-titled EP, due out on October 1 through Bonsai Records, ‘Absence Of Pleasure’ is the follow up to ‘The Valley’, which only dropped in August this year.

Despite only finishing VCE last year, Sirens have been making waves over the past few years thanks to their live shows, initially playing free shows on The Barwon Heads main street, to now shredding the stage at The Barwon Club, sharing the stage with a number of local and out of town musicians such as Bones And Jones, Grace Drummon, Phaedo and Operation Karma.

Emphasising the mesmeric capacity of this young band, ‘Absence of Pleasure’ is an entirely dreamy and powerful insight into what’s to come from the forthcoming EP.
