Victoriana Gaye’s sixth album ‘Happy Abduction’ sees art rockers Vicki Phillip and Jeff Raglus at their most authentic

With the guidance of Shane O’Mara, Victoriana Gaye have produced a sonic journey that presents their own signature sound.

Victoriana Gaye are the duo Vicki Philipp (guitar & vocals) and Jeff Raglus (guitar, vocals & trumpet). Victoriana Gaye describe their sound as a combination of psych-folk with new wave pop, but performed in a singer songwriter style. The couple play a mix of acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, harmonica and take it in turns to sing lead or harmony.

They have toured and played their original material at festivals and venues in Europe, Japan, New Caledonia and Australia.

Sometimes whimsical, sometimes romantic and sometimes rockin’.

Happy Abduction is the sixth studio album from Victoriana Gaye, produced by Shane O’Mara at his Yikesville Studio.

Lost in a world of compulsive melody making and a shared harmonic intimacy, creating art and music bred from the wild Southwest Coast of Victoria. Their songs have a common thread of the something other.

This is hardly unexpected, given their grounding in the arts as well as music. Jeff’s work can be seen in Boom gallery, and in many public spaces along the Surf Coast.

These art rockers have returned in very good company. They have drawn in the talents of Dale Lindrea, Ross McLennan, Leigh Fisher, Simon Dawe, Leroy Cope, Shane Riley, Bruce Haymes and James Sherlock on various tracks.

With the guidance of O’Mara, they have produced a sonic journey that presents their own signature sound. The 10 songs have a cinematic scope yet stay grounded in pop ideology. Happy Abduction is a round trip fuelled by nature, rising tides, old roads and the knowledge that we’re all just passing through.

The material is fresh and has a resonation, an almost ethereal quality. Within that framework, some are the definitive floating psych mix, while others have that solid rock beat.

It is no surprise that Vicki and Jeff achieve this, they both have a wealth of experience in music, and use it take you on that journey.

There’s only one real question, where will they take us next time?
