Tired Lion unveils nostalgic new album, Breakfast For Pathetics

Words by Natasha Tupackovski

"The air smells so different this year, are you over it?"

Finally bringing some good into 2020, the highly anticipated release of Tired lions new album ‘Breakfast for Pathetics’, a little angry and very sincere.

Breakfast is served, bringing a nostalgic feel to their new album. ‘Cya Later’ is sorrowful to suit the mood of our modern-day malaise. The album sporting the same laid-back, windows-down apathy of Smashing Pumpkins’ 1979.

Bringing Australian artists back into the rock scene with her heart-stopping lyrics and clean vocals, the ten-track album features hits such as ‘Waterbed’ and ‘Screw You Man’ which bring the same alternative feeling that we all loved from their debut Dumb Days, now three years old.

Breakfast For Pathetics brings the heavy topic of mental health to the table. The track ‘Lie To Me’ explores some painfully relatable lyrics about self-worth, really nailing the power in repetition.

In review Hopes explains her own battle with mental health writing ‘Cya Later’. “This song was my attempt to desperately try and find my way out of about of depression where I had completely hidden myself from the world.

“I guess I needed a way to set myself free and find a way to be okay. I moved to Brisbane and was missing my family a lot. When I was writing this song I wanted to use a happy memory that would have the power to take me back to that place.”

Breakfast For Pathetics is out now. Check out the full album on Spotify.
