Earlier this year, a record-breaking crowd of more than 50,000 fans watched the Matildas defeat France 1-0 at Marvel Stadium in the lead up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Allan Labor Government has been a steadfast supporter of women in sport, investing $42 million in the Home of The Matildas at La Trobe University in Bundoora. This world-class training base serves as the national training centre for Football Australia’s national women’s teams, from grassroots to elite levels.

Premier Jacinta Allan expressed her excitement, stating, “The Matildas captured our hearts at the World Cup and we can’t wait to welcome them back to Melbourne for this match, with thousands of fans set to witness the Tillies’ might firsthand at Marvel Stadium.”

As Melbourne prepares for this historic event, the government’s ongoing investment promises more exciting events in the months ahead, solidifying the city’s status as a premier destination for major sporting and cultural occasions.

The Matildas’ journey to Paris 2024 has become a central narrative in this thrilling chapter of Australian sports history.
