The Geelong Independent Film Festival is a brand-new celebration of local and international short films

The Geelong Independent Film Festival is about promoting film-makers and their works to the local and broader Australian filmmaking communities.

We absolutely adore a film festival! Film festivals are a great way to experience the power of cinema, showcasing just how moving film can be, and the outstanding talent of this country’s incredible filmmakers.

While there are many long-running and established festivals across the country, there’s always room for more, so meet the Geelong Independent Film Festival.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

The Geelong Independent Film Festival (GIFF) is a brand new ongoing film festival held five times a year in the centre of Victoria’s second-largest city, Geelong (an excellent location for the arts and local filmmaking community) and accepts films of any genre up to 15 minutes max in length. Supported by the Geelong Waterfront Film group, the Geelong Independent Film Festival is about promoting film-makers and their works to the local and broader Australian filmmaking communities.

The aim is to help filmmakers build a local audience with each screening.

Kicking off today (Friday, February 24), The Geelong Independent Film Festival is being held at Beav’s Bar, Geelong, starting at 4:30pm. This is the first round of the five film festival events to be happening throughout the year.
Entry is $10, payable on the door, cash only, but an ATM is on-site if you need it.
As for what to expect, the festival will be screening short films from mostly Australia but also around the world. They have an amazing lineup in store with a terrific variety of films.
Selected films will be judged by a select panel of local film makers. Judging will take place on the night of the festival and their decisions will be revealed on the night. There are five award categories at GIFF, including Best Short Film, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Director and Best Cinematography.
The highest award of the night is Best Film and that will be awarded along with the Golden Caesar, a brand new statuette award symbolising the highest excellence in filmmaking.
It is going to be an incredible night!
