Lose yourself inside the euphoric human-sized 'Kaleidoscope' - a new instillation work by Keith Courtney that will see guests step inside a hall of rotating mirrors, light and sound.

From leading installation artist Keith Courtney, one of the artists behind House of Mirrors and 1000 DoorsKaleidoscope is a mesmerising symphony of sound and light, staged in a breathtaking mirror maze taking over Bendigo’s Rosalind Park for the month of April.

By day, Kaleidoscope is a sparkling crystal palace as the open-air structure transports visitors to another world. As the sun sets, the installation basks in a colour field of ever-changing light.

Keep up with the latest in local news and entertainment here.

The 700 square-meter installation scales the deceptively simple optical device to epic proportions, creating a unique and ever-shifting experience that fuses art and technology, designed to be enjoyed by all ages.

Produced in collaboration with visual artist Ash Keating, artist Samantha Slicer, and a team of highly skilled technicians, Kaleidoscope is completed by a soundscape composed by Tamil Rogeon, featuring The  Australian Boys Choir, for an all-encompassing sensory experience.

Kaleidoscope contains internal mirrors, luminous glass, and translucent beads of colour. As the light shifts and the delicate tubular structure rotates, the space is transformed into an intergalactic playground,” says Keith. “The visitor is completely submerged in sound and light where their experience is entirely personal.”

Following its premiere at Arts Centre Melbourne in 2022 for RISING, Kaleidoscope became a fixture at the Brisbane Powerhouse during Brisbane Festival, and is currently wowing audiences at Adelaide Fringe Festival. Now, this festival hit is coming to Bendigo and Courtney is excited to see his project come to life in regional Victoria.

City of Greater Bendigo Manager Tourism and Major Events Terry Karamaloudis said Bendigo is the first regional city in Victoria to present Kaleidoscope, so this event was not to be missed. “The City is thrilled to secure this stunning installation as a major centrepiece in Bendigo’s Rosalind Park throughout April, and during the Bendigo Easter Festival,” Mr Karamaloudis said. “We are the first regional Victorian city to host this mesmerising maze from acclaimed artist Keith Courtney. Residents and visitors will be dazzled by as they immerse in the light, colour and sound interplay that will heighten senses.”

Kaleidoscope by Keith Courtney will take to Rosalind Park, Bendigo. April 1- 30, 2023. Tickets here
