Held throughout the heart of Geelong, the festival annually celebrates all things delicious in the region.

With hundreds of activities on offer, it doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned foodie or a new-found food lover, young or young at heart, there is always something new and enticing for you to devour every single year at the annual Tastes of Central Geelong festival.

Held throughout the heart of Geelong, the festival has now been celebrated on the national stage, with the 2019 Tastes of Central Geelong festival named Victoria’s Best Regional Event at this year’s Australian Event Awards.

Announced at a gala dinner in Sydney, the award recognised Tastes of Central Geelong for its special contribution to the local region. Entries were judged on event quality, management processes and degree of difficulty.

Organised by Central Geelong Marketing, Tastes of Central Geelong featured 758 individual activities over three weeks in July 2019, showcasing 113 different businesses and attracting over 25,000 participants. It’s estimated the program injected $2.67 million into the local economy, celebrating the wide range of cafes, restaurants and hospitality venues on offer in central Geelong.

Activities included guided tours, cooking classes, workshops and competitions, lunch and dinner events, tea parties, children’s activities, special offers and more.

The festival was rated by 98 per cent of participants as ‘very important’ or ‘important’ for central Geelong, while 90 per cent of participants said the activity they attended was ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.

“This is a well deserved accolade on the national stage for the very popular Tastes of Central Geelong festival,” says City of Greater Geelong CEO Martin Cutter.

“Central Geelong Marketing is fortunate to have a passionate committee and a small but extremely hard working team of staff who support businesses in our CBD through a creative program of activities and place making.

“It’s wonderful to see the value and standard of their work recognised by the industry, and this award will bring further exposure to both Tastes of Central Geelong and Geelong more broadly.”

While this years festival had to be moved online due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and didn’t quite have the same impact as it usually would, this award puts the festival in good stead to put on a bigger and better festival in 2021.
