The driving force behind Surf Coast Design Studio, Ben brings a wealth of design experience to the table, as well as his attributes as a visual artist who specialises in producing large-scale abstract colour-field paintings.
After growing up in Geelong, and then living in Melbourne for almost twenty years, in 2020 Ben moved back. This shift brought a new dimension to his art, significantly influencing his painting style. As Ben’s artistic journey evolved, so did his vision for establishing a dedicated design studio in the Geelong/Surf Coast region.
“I noticed that when friends and local business owners I know were looking to have design work done, the options were very limited. Whereas in Melbourne there are almost too many great design studios to choose from.
“Having grown up in Geelong, then lived in Melbourne, and then moved back here, I saw it as a good opportunity,” Ben shared. “There seems to be a lot more in the way of creative arts happening in the Geelong/Surf Coast area over the last few years, so it’s cool to be a part of that.”
In the spirit of simplicity, Surf Coast Design Studio takes on the complexities of the creative process while always going back to the idea of minimalism. “Minimalism isn’t always easy – in fact, it can be deceptively tricky sometimes – but in my experience, keeping things lean and simple often gets the best results,” Ben remarked. “You often end up with something that is classier and more likely to stand the test of time.”
