Ever since restrictions eased, Geelong has been showing off how great our city really is.
With things opening up, and the chances of future lockdowns looking pretty slim, it’s time to get out and enjoy the amazing things Geelong has to offer.
Today we’re looking at some of the hottest events to be hitting our city this summer, there’s something for everyone.
Archie 100: A Century of The Archibald Prize
Australia’s biggest art competition always makes news for its unique painters, interesting subjects and garnering some notable celebrity artists, but it’s making news this year for a different reason.
It’s been 100 years since the first Archibald Prize competition was held, and it’s being celebrated with an exhibition that’s touring Australia.
It’ll feature all of the newsworthy art pieces, the most quirky, and of course some of the best portraits from the century of the award.
It’ll be held at the Geelong Gallery from the 6th of November until the 25th of November, and tickets are only $16 for adults, and $7 for kids, which you can grab here.

Let Them Eat Cake
Live music is making its slow return to our stages, and an awesome festival is happening not too far from Geelong celebrating the best in Aussie live music.
The Let Them Eat Cake festival is happening at the Werribee Mansion over New Year’s Day and will feature such acts as Adi Toohey, Ben Fester, Confidence Man, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Papa Smurf, and Young Franco to name a few.
In classic music festival fashion, it doesn’t stop at the music, they’ll also have the best of regional Victorian art, food and drinks, so you can get that full festival experience all of us have gone so long without.

Great Australian Beer Festival
The Geelong Great Australian Beer Festival is celebrating its 9th year with a massive event that you’ll definitely want to head to.
It’ll be happening in the heart of Geelong, at Johnstone Park, on 15th of January. According to their website, the festival will feature the most breweries than ever before, it’s said that it’ll be over 200, and it’ll feature all types – stouts, lagers, XPA’s, IPA’s, and lots more, so you’ll be sure to find a new brew.
It’s also pretty unlikely you’ll go home empty-handed, there’s a lot to buy and win at the Great Australian Brew Festival.
But it doesn’t finish at the beer, throw in some quality food, music from such acts as The Badloves, The Settlement and The Violas, and you’ll have a great day out.
There are also some cool masterclasses if you want to learn more about the craft, and many cider stands if you’re not a fan of beer.

That 70’s Festival
Always saying ‘music was better in my day?’ Then head to That 70’s Festival, which will be hitting Breakwater in January.
It features some of the best tribute bands, playing the music of the 70’s, tribute bands that are set to appear will play songs from – The Beatles, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Simon and Garfunkel, ABBA, and Queen to name a few. Check out the rest of the lineup here.
The festival also promotes the idea of attending in your favourite attire from the era – you’ll then be in the draw to win some pretty cool prizes.
It’s also great for the whole family – there’ll be kids rides and games that they can enjoy while you’re reminiscing on music from the past.

Humans in Geelong Expo
This awesome event hopes to bring people together, to get back a sense of community and celebrate the camaraderie Geelong-ites have.
It’s a free event that’s taking place on the 5th of December at the Geelong Racecourse and has some pretty cool moments that all the family will love.
These are things like Ana and Elsa from Frozen blowing bubbles for the kids, a visit from the Geelong Crusaders, a Cuban salsa dancing group, plus a lot more which you can check out here.

Melbourne Fringe Festival – Geelong Edition
After many successful years playing to theatre fans in the city, Melbourne’s popular Fringe festival will make a journey to Regional Geelong this December with six performances across a few nights.
Known for celebrating the cool, the quirky, and the different, Melbourne’s fringe festival has a bunch of events that are for all different types of people, so you’re bound to find something you like.
The Geelong edition will feature shows around comedy, music, experimental works, drama, and lots more
