Seven awesome free short courses to boost your skillset

As the temperature drops and rain just doesn’t seem to be going away, we’re all spending a lot more time indoors lately, so it’s the perfect time to focus on expanding your knowledge in a new area.

These courses are all certified, look great on a resume, and help you land that dream job you’ve been longing for.

While we’ve never really been that lucky with free education down under, we’ve scoured the web for some of the best free courses available to Aussies and Victorians alike.

The Global Standard For Assessing Risks To Ecosystems

Deakin Uni offers this short course for everyone out there interested in all saving the environment, and preserving it for future generations. You will explore the interesting world of ecosystems, and dive into the immense amount of current threats the environment is facing. Students will also research new and established ways to maintain and conserve the ecosystems to hinder any further damage.

The course is pre-recorded, so it can be undertaken at any time, it only lasts two weeks, and its run by one of Deakin’s top scientists, so there’s nothing stopping you from taking this course.

The Business Of Football

Open Education offers this course for Soccer fanatics who are interested in all facets of the sport. Students will dive in behind the scenes/business side of their favourite game, and study their business models, and how they work compared to other industries. You’ll also get the chance to chat with people involved in some of your favourite teams too!

Once again, there are no deadline-based components to this course, so you can complete it in your own time, to make sure you really get the most out of it.

Diploma of Justice

Victorians can now study the Diploma of Justice for free thanks to the Vic Government. It’s perfect for those older students who want to return to the workforce or switch up their career path. You’ll focus on all aspects of the Victorian criminal industry, where there’ll be practical and theory-based learning outcomes.

Part of the course also puts you into some real courtrooms in places like the Melbourne Magistrates Court and the Drug Court, where you can practice and hone your skills in mock court practices.

Certificate III In Tourism

Another awesome free Victorian incentive comes in the form of a Certificate III in Tourism. This comprehensive course focuses on all aspects of the tourism industry, from preparing beverages to guiding a scuba dive. You’ll focus on creating a memorable experience for the customer.

This course can directly lead you to some of the best careers in the industry from cellar door consultant to bus tour guide, and all for free.

Transforming Digital Learning: Learning Design Meets Service Design

This course focuses on the future, more specifically the future of digital education, where students dive into the ins and outs of online learning.

There’ll be opportunities to discover new ways of learning, and discover where the world of education is going alongside some of Australia’s top education experts. There’ll even be the opportunity to contribute your own research to the field, making all your hard work pay off. How Technology is Shaping Democracy And The 2020 Election

There’s no question that last year’s US Election was a point of worldwide interest. With controversies and conflicts that some parties faced, this course will show you how much further the issues actually went. It’l also dive into the adoption of technology to manipulate voters and influence their decisions.
