Portarlington Mussel Tours were awarded for their demonstrated excellence in developing and undertaking a positive, educative seafood experience with opportunities to consume Australian seafood, as well as having contributed substantially towards a positive public profile for the seafood industry. The win comes just twelve months after operation commenced with the company becoming a tourist attraction to the Bellarine.
Their services have raised the profile of the humble mussel while, educating guests on the positive environmental outcomes of mussel farming and the health benefits of mussel consumption in diets. With their on-board cooking demonstrations and immersive experience, it truly is an excellent experience within Victoria.
Lance Wiffen, owner and founder, also founder of Sea Bounty Mussels, says “We’re pleased to get the award, as it recognised exactly what we set out to achieve with running these tours. People want to know where their food comes from, how sustainable it is, and how to prepare it easily enough in the home. We also love that we get to show off this beautiful region and other local Bellarine produce on the boat.”
The win also comes with an exciting business move for Wiffen, with his other project Sea Bounty Mussels now officially offering commercial diving for the local Port Phillip scallop. This will filter into their Portarlington Mussel tours as another tantalising treat for guests to try.
You can experience the Best Seafood Experience for yourself with dates open for bookings right through the year, with a special Oakdene Wine and Seafood Tour featuring on 22 June.
