Melbourne have an authentic French festival next weekend

Celebrate the most famous date on the French calendar with fine wine, food and music. Bastille Day is the French National Day celebrated on the 14th of July each year and commemorates the 1790 Fête de la Fédération, held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille in 1789.

This year, Melbourne are showcasing its French influence and the French people who contribute to making Melbourne the multicultural, food and entertainment hub it is today.

Taking over North Melbourne’s Meat Market, the event will be an excuse to celebrate the best of French culture, from the excellent food and wine, to the Gallic nation’s film and art.

Part of the Meat Market will be turned into a French marketplace filled with vendors peddling the best French cheeses, crepes and of course, pastries.

Look out for French bakeries Gontran Cherrier and Choukette, cheesy raclette from Frencheese, and sweet treats from Pop-up Crepes and Chooh La La. Vendors will also be showcasing French-made goods, offer travel options for your next getaway or language lessons so you can brush up on your French.

Ticketed food and wine masterclasses will also run over the weekend for a crash course on French cuisine from producers and artisans.

And if you’re a film buff, make the most of four film screenings to take place at the festival, featuring classics like Le Chat du Rabbin (The Rabbi’s Cat, 2011) and L’Homme de Rio (The Man from Rio, 1964).

The festival will run on July 15 & 16 from 10am to 5pm.
