Blues singer-songwriter and guitarist Matt Katsis has released his first single of the year ‘Bones’. A follow up from his haunting release ‘Love and Gravity’, both tracks were recorded at his home in Bendigo during 2020’s social isolation.
With only “a slow beat-up MacBook and old audio interface,” Matt stayed inspired by making music and produced some amazing tunes in the process. Impressively, Matt wrote, recorded and mixed everything himself.
‘Bones’ is a catchy tune that’s perfect for fans of Ash Grunwald and Boy and Bear. Matt’s modern take on the blues sound is inspired by his travels through North America’s West and Deep South.
With his signature folk vocals, Matt draws from pioneers such as Mississippi Fred McDowell with an individual edge. Layers of gritty slide guitar are paired with a Mississippi hill-country backbeat, punctuated by organic percussive sounds. Despite it’s rawness, the humming melody post-chorus is an instant ear-worm.
‘Bones’ is brimming with uplifting energy, calling listeners to “get lost in the boogie tones” and “shine bright like a fire.”
Frequenting over 40 music festivals around Australia, Matt is known for his “one-man-band” approach to live performance. Performing solo, he handles percussive elements of 6 & 9 string acoustic guitars, kick drum, tambourine and harmonica with ease.
Past performances include Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival, Blues on Broadbeach and Queenscliff Music Festival.
His talent has landed him multiple busking awards, including winning First Place as Queenscliff Music Festival’s Favourite Busker. He was also a finalist of the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society’s Performer of the Year award in 2018.

“Music can inspire us, have us bask in nostalgia and maybe above all, aid as an outlet or a way of experiencing a little sense of things ‘otherworldly’ and what we can’t exactly pin down.”
