For the ultimate sweet treat, you need the loukoumades from this new dessert bar in your life.

Since opening back in 2017, Milton Mavromoustakos and his wife Julia have cemented Mavs – Geelong’s only authentic Greek restaurant – as a regional favourite. Located in Geelong’s trendy West End precinct in Little Malop Street, Mavs is broadly loved for its vibrant and authentic anything-goes spirit.

Offering fresh, homemade Greek cuisine with a combination of smaller dishes designed to share alongside a bigger, heartier fare, the award-winning Mavs is where you can go to experience the atmosphere of a traditional Greek gathering, right in the heart of Geelong. It’s pretty safe to say that Mavs is a big part of what makes Little Malop Street such a vibrant and diverse dining destination.

With Loukoumades (small Greek donuts, traditionally served with honey, walnuts and cinnamon) been one of the most popular desserts at Mavs Greek restaurant since it opened 5.5 years ago, they decided to continue their journey down Little Malop now with their brand-new venture into the sweet side of life with LoukouMADNESS Greek desserts, bringing a wholesome dessert offering into the Geelong CBD community.

“The idea of a dessert shop has always been in our mind, and once we found an empty shop on Little Malop St, we decided to go ahead,” Milton and Julia told us.

Doing what they do best and serving up served up Greek food with the utmost commitment to fine produce and attention to detail, the new dessert bar is offering a sojourn around the Mediterranean without the airfare, specialising in Loukoumades (aka little bite-sized sweet balls of Greek heaven, deep-fried to crispy and golden perfection), traditional desserts, milkshakes and more.

Located mere metres from their hero restaurant Mavs, you’ll find the bright and colourful just-launched dessert destination in an intimate store front on Little Malop Street, at shop 65, previously home to Welcome Back Cafe. Echoing the fun and vibrant nature of Greek desserts, the bar features bright-pink neon, pastel panelling, colourful seating and vivid pops of colours on the wall, Milton and Julie have created a relaxed and casual space, where the focus is simply on enjoying tasty bite-sized pieces of heaven.

“The shop was set to open in October 2022, but Mavs was so busy, that we had to postpone the opening.

“After we finally opened LoukouMADNESS in the beginning of January, locals and Geelong’s guests warmly welcomed our new venture.”

The holy grail here is, of course, the deliciously fried Greek doughnuts Loukoumades. Served fresh, made to order and designed to be eaten hot, right out of the fryer, there are 11 varieties of Loukoumades on offer, ranging from the classic honey, walnut and cinnamon and ‘strawberry jam’, to more indulgent combinations like Snickers, Golden Gaytime and Ferrero Rocher.

Personally, we can never go past the Nutella option, which comes topped with crushed hazelnuts and icing sugar, or for the coffee lovers amongst us, Mocha will get you these fried orbs covered in coffee sauce, chocolate sauce, chocolate powder and chocolate sprinkles. Add in flavours like white chocolate and biscoff, bounty, black forest and chocolate and oreo and you’ll be day-dreaming about all these loading topping combinations for years to come.

“Our customers love traditional honey and walnut loukoumades as well as other 10 flavours, with a twist – dark rich chocolate, Nutella, coffee, bitter almond, cherry and strawberry sauces, classic and salted caramel. If you don’t like the menu flavours, you can create your own, adding sauces, toppings and ice-cream.”

You can add sauces like chocolate, strawberry, caramel, coffee, Amaretto, cherry, mango and more, as well as a swag of different toppings like peanuts, hazelnuts, coconut flakes, crushed oreo and glazed cherries, just to name a few.

Serves come in six pieces ranging from $7-$8, or a 10-pack will set you back $14 at a maximum.

Alongside these nuggets of golden dough, you’ll also find a range of traditional Greek desserts available, including baklava, galaktoboureko, ekmek, Greek rice pudding, orange and walnut cakes, yo-yos and profiterol – you name it, they serve it!

Because more is more when it comes to desserts, LoukouMADNESS also offers seriously indulgent shakes and thick shakes in a range of oh-so-sweet flavours inspired by the Loukoumades, including your classics (strawberry, vanilla and chocolate), Snickers, Ferrero Rocher, white chocolate and Biscoff, Golden Gaytime, Mocha, and more. Coffee and Greek Coffee is also available, as well as icy cold Frappes, freddo espresso and freddo cappuccino.

It’s a cute spot, cozy and bright, with some seats inside for when you simply can’t wait to chow down and a few laneway tables for those who want to kick back and people watch with a batch of Greek doughnuts and an industrial-strength Greek coffee. They can also cater for a small workplace function or big home celebrations as well.

Officially opening in January, LoukouMADNESS Greek desserts is located at 65 Little Malop st, Geelong and is Monday – Friday 9am – 10pm, Saturday 5pm – 10pm.
