Local gymnast Lauren Menzies has been selected for the Worlds but needs some help to get her there.

Making the Special Olympics gymnast squad is a dream come true for Lara gymnast Lauren Menzies.

Qualifying for the Worlds by winning Gold for Victoria at the Special Olympics National Games back in October, the 19-year-old is now within arms of her dream of representing Australia at the Special Olympics Worlds Games – the world’s largest inclusive sports event. Taking place in Berlin from 17 – 25 June 2023, thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities compete together in 26 sports. Nine days of exciting and inspiring competitions, by athletes and for athletes.

But she needs a little help to get there.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

With 142 days until the games kick off, Lauren is calling out to the community to help get her to the games, launching a fundraiser to help raise some travel cash.

“This is my first time ever being selected to go to worlds and it would be an honour to wear green and gold. I want to do this to show that no matter what diagnosis you have, u can achieve what you dream about if you work hard, dream and listen to your coach. If you can, please help me raise money for my trip,” Lauren wrote to the page.

“I’m so proud to have been picked to wear the green and gold at the World Games in Berlin.

To be part of an Australian team and go overseas will be a dream come true. But I need to raise $9,000 to get there. That’s a lot of money and I need your help!

Will you please donate today and get me to Berlin? I promise I will do my best and make Australia proud.”

At the time of writing, Lauren’s campaign has raised almost $4000 with a goal of $9000.
