Brought to life by the award-winning minds of Tim Minchin AM, writer Danny Rubin, and director Matthew Warchus, Groundhog Day The Musical promises to be an unmissable experience for Melburnians. The musical, only the third of its kind globally, takes the audience on a gloriously joyful and heartwarming journey as weatherman Phil Connors finds himself trapped in an endless loop of a single day.

Olivier Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated star Andy Karl leads the cast, reprising his role as Phil Connors after acclaimed performances in London and Broadway. Critics from London to New York have praised Karl’s performance as “bewitching,” “suburb,” and “outrageously inventive.”

Karl, ahead of the first preview, shared his excitement, saying, “I can’t wait to perform with this tremendous Australian Cast.”

Joining Karl is Elise McCann as the quick-witted and kind-hearted television producer Rita Hanson. The cast also includes a talented ensemble of actors, bringing the classic rom-com to life on the Melbourne stage.

The production boasts creative genius behind the scenes, with Set and Costume by Rob Howell, Choreography by Lizzi Gee, Orchestration and Musical Supervision by Christopher Nightingale, Lighting by Hugh Vanstone, Sound by Simon Baker, Illusions by Paul Kieve, and Video and Animation by Andrzej Goulding.

Groundhog Day The Musical is a Whistle Pig production, produced in Australia by GWB Entertainment and supported by Victoria’s Tourism and Major Event fund, Visit Victoria. Originally produced in partnership with The Old Vic, the musical promises an unforgettable theatre experience.

As the Princess Theatre gears up for the exclusive season of Groundhog Day The Musical, Melbourne is in for a treat, experiencing the magic of this hit show in the heart of the city’s theatre district.

The Melbourne exclusive season of Groundhog Day The Musical will play at the Princess Theatre from January 24, 2024. Get tickets here.
