Gusto Gusto gallop into Geelong’s Beav’s Bar and Melbourne’s Bergy Bandroom

Words by Staff Writer

Gear up for some grooves this October as flavoursome folk group Gusto Gusto launch their debut album.

Gusto Gusto is the most fitting name for the West Preston folk outfit. Reflective of their name, Gusto Gusto’s live shows are revered as festival favourites thanks to their enthusiasm and high energy.

This month Geelong and Melbourne get a taste of their folk flavours as they take to Little Malop Street’s Beav’s Bar on Friday 11 October alongside earth folk collective Seal Prince and the Roof Rats, and head Bergy Bandroom the following week on Friday 18 October with melting-pop of grooves Headphone Jones.

The upcoming shows are in celebration of their highly-anticipated debut album To The Ocean They Returned which is dropping this month. With lead single ‘Gorgon’ – a drum-led dance explosion with a moody trumpet solo and a ripping guitar feature out now, the album follows the same vein stepping into their high-fever framework. It’s characterised by a raucous blend of violin, trumpet and clarinet and backed by accordion, guitar, bass and drums. It makes for momentous builds and a magical listening experience.

It’s a style that Gusto Gusto have honed for years, making them standouts in the folk scene. In 2023, Gusto Gusto were announced as finalists in the 2023 Australian Folk Music Award’s under the big-gun category Artist of the Year. The past two years have further seen the West Preston power players storming stages including Glastonbury Festival (UK), Brunswick Music Festival (VIC) and Woodford Folk Festival (QLD).

The Geelong and Melbourne shows are part of a national Australian album tour which included festival and headline shows across five states. They will also be jetting across to the UK for a three-week To The Ocean They Returned celebration.
