Flowstate Brewers and Distillers to open first cellar door in Torquay this month

The Torquay legends are providing the perfect weekender activity for liquor lovers this summer.

If you’re looking for something to fill you with pure bliss, there’s not much that can beat winding down after a hard day’s work with an overflowing G&T or tasty cocktail, especially for the gin lovers out there.

If this kind of pure bliss is what you have eagerly been waiting for these last few months, and you’re ready to say goodbye to the cold whiskey winter, then the team at Flowstate Brewers and Distillers have you sorted opening their long-awaited Cellar Door, providing locals with a brand-new drinking destination just in time for summer.

Keep up with the latest food and booze news across the region here.

Based in Torquay, Flowstate is founded by two brothers – Shaun and Leigh – with a passion for travel, the outdoors, the environment and a love of crafting. With their eclectic backgrounds in the building, brewing and horticulture industries, Flowstate turned two ocean-loving tradies into the geniuses behind a Brewery and Distillery that somehow nails the cross-over between minimalism, progressiveness and startling creativity. Rarely do you find a business name matched so perfectly to the products and ethos of everything a company creates.

Driven by a purpose, the brothers have gone from strength to strength since Flowstate’s launch in 2019, focusing on the simple and creative pursuit of happiness wherein they bottle incredible products, with unconventional flair while striving constantly to protect the planet.

At Flowstate, each bottle reflects the lifestyle these brothers define. Keen travellers, family-orientated and avid surfers, their products are based on a mindset and shared sense of values, each sip offering a taste of a life lived in “flow”.

Their dream is now a reality, after selling their gins to local stockists and online sales, they have now officially got a date for their first-ever cellar door, which opens to the public from
the 25th of November from 4pm.

Taking over a space at 17/10 Cylinders Drive, Torquay, the intimate distillery/Bar is the result of three years of hard work, and will see the bright and open warehouse venue host gin-lovers, providing tasting paddles of Flowstate’s range of gins which change frequently depending on the season and availability. Let the friendly cellar door team take you through an immersed tasting experience and learn the story of how it started and the process of making gin, or just sit back and enjoy a tipple or two. You’ll even see the beautiful copper pot still (Bobby) on full display amongst the Venue.

The cellar door will then operate on Fridays and Saturdays with Gin Masterclasses available for private bookings.

Not only that, but they now have functions packages available with the ability to cater for up to 64 guests for any style of function including birthdays, cocktail parties, engagements, weddings, ladies/men’s day out, corporate events or whatever tickles your fancy!

Striving for greatness, their unique Craft Gin has been their flagship product since launching three years ago (and for good reason, it’s delicious) however the brothers have consistently created exciting seasonal and limited releases over the years including a Pinot Gin, combining Torquay’s craft gin with pinot noir from Austins Wines of the Moorabool Valley; a Chardy Gin; and an Oaked & Smoked Gin which stands are their most experimental to date.

As for their latest creations – ones which you will be able to taste directly from the cellar door – there’s a Sangria Gin and a more festive Gingle Bells.

Inspired by the festive wine-punch recipes of Spain and Portugal, Gin sangrias the union of the craft Gin with shiraz wine lees and rested in French Oak for a short period. The distillate is then combined with fresh citrus peel and traditional spices creating a light-bodied, fruity, and refreshing sipping gin that is lovely and smooth with a lingering liquorice finish. This sangria can be served in a number of ways, mixed with soda and a splash of red wine as a punch with plenty of ice and topped with some seasonal fresh fruit. Or keep it simple with your favourite premium Tonic and a slice of citrus. Yum!!

Then there’s the Gingle Bells which is sure to get you in the mood this festive season. With the Craft Gin as a foundation, the brothers have introduced the Gin to lashings of sweet cherries, figs, currents, dates and then lovingly elevated with orange, lemon peel and all manners of Christmas spices such as cinnamon, star anise, and cloves that all work in harmony to savour the true spirit of Christmas. Best served: Neat or over ice, into a Gin and tonic/soda garnished with a orange slice for a Christmassy twist, in a Christmas French 75, or over ice cream for a festive indulgent dessert.

Best of all, you can drink this gin knowing you’re helping the bigger issues facing our natural world, with Flowstate committing 1% of all sales to the global movement “1% for the Planet”, a network together protecting the future of our planet.

So, who’s up for a gin?
