Inside, a new feature film starring award-winning Australian actor Guy Pearce, has just wrapped up filming in Victoria.

Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brooks recently visited the set of Inside, a new crime-thriller that was filmed in locations across the state over the last five weeks – with cameras rolling in Melbourne’s northern and western suburbs, including Brunswick and Brooklyn, as well as in Victoria’s regions.

The production created 85 jobs for Victorian screen industry workers including crews, local cast, casuals and extras, backing more opportunities for emerging and established local talent. With filming boosting areas across Victoria, Inside also generated $4 million in economic value to Victoria’s economy.

Inside’s filming in Victoria was supported by the Victorian Screen Incentive and Regional Location Assistance Fund, which are both delivered through VicScreen. It is the debut feature film for Australian writer-director Charles Williams, who won the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival with his short film, All These Creatures.

Inside is produced by Marian Macgowan (Two Hands, The Great) for Macgowan Films and Kate Glover (The Phantom of the Open, Hot Milk) for Never Sleep Pictures, with Thomas Wright (The Stranger, Acute Misfortune) as executive producer.

After being transferred from juvenile to adult prison, Mel Blight (Vincent Miller) is taken under the wing of both Mark Shepard (Cosmo Jarvis), Australia’s most despised criminal, and Warren Murfett (Guy Pearce), a soon-to-be-a-paroled inmate. As a paternal triangle grows between them, we see that even the worst of men have a little bit of good inside that will be their undoing.

Adding to the film’s star power is Toby Wallace (Babyteeth, The Royal Hotel), Tara Morice (Strictly Ballroom, Dance Academy) and Chloé Hayden (Heartbreak High).

“It was a thrill to visit the set of Inside in Brunswick and meet some of our state’s talented cast and crew, who are bringing this distinctly Australian story to life,” Brooks said. “We are backing productions like Inside to create job opportunities for Victorian screen workers and businesses, and put our local talent and stories on screens across the globe.”

“It was incredibly defining to have spent my formative years growing up in regional Victoria and I couldn’t imagine making this film anywhere else,” Williams added. “It’s a part of Australia we don’t often see on screen and I’m very grateful to have had the support to shoot here – both from VicScreen and the incredible local cast, crew, and wider community.”
