Audio-Technica, the audio excellence leader, is calling on the public to design the limited edition of their flagship studio headphones, the ATH-M50x and ATH-M50xBT2, for the year 2024.
From January 10th to January 24th, fans can dive into the immersive “Lab M50x” experience, where they have the power to choose colours for four different components, select their preferred finish (solid or metallic), and give their creation a unique name.

A distinguished panel of judges, including Hiroyasu Suzuki, Project Manager for the ATH-M50x; Yutaro Kumagai, Chief Designer at YONENOI DESIGN; and Grace Aberhart, an Australian native, bass guitarist, and M50x superfan, will meticulously evaluate the design submissions.
The top three designs will be unveiled on January 26th through Audio-Technica’s social media channels, initiating a public vote to decide the winning design, which will be revealed on February 1st.
This initiative marks the twelfth edition of limited-edition models since 2012, with previous colours ranging from Ice Blue to Metallic Red. The 2024 limited edition models promise to be the most unique yet, allowing participants to add four colours to both the M50x and M50xBT2 for the first time.
The ATH-M50x, introduced in 2014, quickly earned a reputation for its balanced sound profile, robust design, and accessible price point, becoming the go-to headphones for content creators worldwide, with over 2 million units sold. The wireless version, ATH-M50xBT2, launched in 2019, building on the acclaimed signature sound of its predecessor.
The winning design from Lab M50x is set to launch in September 2024 and will grace both the wired (ATH-M50x) and wireless (ATH-M50xBT2) versions of the headphones.
