Clinton’s career? It’s nothing short of iconic. As the creator of Parliament and Funkadelic, he completely reshaped black music in the ‘70s, blending soul, psychedelia, and sci-fi theatrics into a whole new movement that not only produced timeless classics but also influenced generations to come.
Parliament mixed Motown’s smooth soul with Hendrix’s raw edge and Sly Stone’s wild energy, while Funkadelic dove deep into experimental territory. Albums like Maggot Brain, Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow, and America Eats Its Young cemented Clinton as a visionary, fusing dance grooves with rock and psychedelic vibes.
The stats speak for themselves – by the late ‘70s, Parliament and Funkadelic had 39 charting singles, including massive R&B hits like Flash Light, One Nation Under Groove, Knee Deep, and Aqua Boogie. Seven of their albums went gold or platinum during that era.
And Clinton’s influence goes way beyond his own work. As leader of the P-Funk collective, he helped launch the careers of funk royalty like Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker, Bernie Worrell, and Eddie Hazel. His solo work in the ‘80s also laid the groundwork for the West Coast sound in ‘90s hip-hop.
You can hear Clinton’s mark all over modern music too. His collaborations and samples are featured in tracks by Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Flying Lotus, Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, and Drake, proving he’s still one of the most influential figures in music.
Even after five decades in the game, Clinton is still one of the busiest touring artists around, and he’s especially excited to bring the funk back to Australia.
“We have a blast every time we come to Australia. Aussie’s know what it means to have a good time: the national motto should be free your mind and your ass will follow. My band has been funkin’ real hard lately…you don’t wanna miss what we be throwin down. Come on out and get funked up!” Clinton says.
Three ticket tiers are available: general admission ($104.90), platinum ($134.90) and diamond ($154.90). Early bird presales begin 1 March for those who sign up, with general sales launching Thursday 3 April.
