At The Edge – Lara Karasavvidis
“In this series, I have continued to reference and pay homage to the coastal landscapes that provide a sense of renewal and energy.”
I’ve sought to depict this landscape as a life force, a place that sparks feelings of hope and possibility. The title of the exhibition, At The Edge is both a reference to the literal meeting of land and sea, but also the idea of a threshold, the excitement of making room to step from one space into another, be it a new idea, a phase in life or a moment of clarity.
“Edges are an important part of the visual language in this body of work. At times clear and defined, at other times overlapping, moving in and out of the picture plane. Pathways and horizon lines are intentionally ambiguous and immersive, small journeys that lead to multiple destinations.
“Repetition and mark making are also essential aspects of my practice, a methodology that takes on a meditative quality in amongst the energy of the landscape. These are achieved through a variety of techniques and media including monoprinting, drawing, painting and etching into the surface.”
At Home – Group Exhibition
At Home is an exhibition that groups together six artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. All of them found a new home here in Australia. Some arrived here as migrants and others as refugees. Some arrived here as children and others were born here in Australia. Each of the artists has a life story that is interesting, unique and meaningful. Their stories are like millions of others that have made Australia home. What an incredible country we all live in and share together.
At Home coincides with Cultura’s Pako Festa. Established in 1983, this spectacular event is Victoria’s largest free multicultural street festival and continues to celebrate Geelong’s diversity through the magic of food, dance and music along Pakington Street, Geelong West. Running this Saturday, Pakington Street is lined with authentic food from around the globe and an incredible street parade kicks off at 11am. The festival also includes over 40 acts across five outdoor stages.
Boom are proud to open At Home during Pako Festa and invite you to come along and share in what is shaping up to be an incredible day.
