See you in Charlton.

OK Motels, who alongside being one of our favourite-ever Instagram accounts documenting rural motels from around Australia, returns to rural Victoria this February for an epic three-day celebration of music, nostalgia and the great Aussie road trip.

Embracing a nostalgic fixation with ’70s-style accommodation and sheer love of supporting live Australian music, Ok Motels pulls together some of the best bands and artists from across the country and brings them to retro motels around the state where people were encouraged to party like it’s 1970.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Originally home to netball presentations nights and deb balls, the Charlton Motel will come alive once again for an entire weekend with indie-pop darling Julia Jacklin headlining, joined by the likes of CIVIC, Party Dozen, Frente, Eaten By Dogs, Ali, ENOLA and more from February 17 – 19.

Ahead of the beloved event, which will see all acts hitting the venue for the very first time, Festival Founder Kate Berry has shared her top six things to discover at OK Charlton this month.

Dinner and Show

The Charlton College kids are cooking the Saturday night dinner, with all funds raised going towards their work experience placement in Melbourne. Providing the tunes are local band Blend, featuring former Mayor, local butcher, and master of the keys, The Weed.

CWA Devonshire Tea and Barefoot Bowls

The CWA will be serving up their famous scones, jam, and cream at the Charlton Lawn Bowls Club, they’ve even got GF and Vegan people covered.

Treasure Hunting

There are so many chances to find a little treasure in Charlton over the weekend. The op shop will have extended hours, there are vintage books, and other stuff stall at the Uniting Church, Charlton Vintage will be open for as long as you need, and on Sunday, there’s a whole town garage sale. Worth the drive just for that.

Music

The lineup at this OK Motel’s is the biggest we’ve had, and to be able to see these acts in an intimate venue is pretty special. Coming to Charlton is Julia Jacklin, CIVIC, Party Dozen, Frente, Ali, Eaten By Dogs, and ENOLA.

Julia Jacklin announced as secret headliner for Charlton’s beloved music party OK Motels

Pool Party, Love Songs, and Ice Cream

Head to the Charlton Public Pool for a dip, and dedicate a song to the one you love. Tell Your Friends You Love Them will be spinning love song dedications and the Charlton Youth Group and CWA team up to bring you homemade ice cream.

Meet a Local

The people of Charlton are so excited to have everyone back, especially after our cancelled event in October due to the floods. You’ll meet Greg, Leanne and Leslie at the East Charlton Hotel, Maureen and Lloyd at OK Camp, Kaylene behind the bar, and grab a wood-fired pizza from Benno, there are too many to list, but there’ll be plenty of chances for a chat.
