If you’re in the Ballarat region tomorrow, May 13, you may wish to consider swinging by the Ballarat Trades Hall for the ‘Ballarat Friends of West Papua Concert’.
The fundraiser includes a BBQ dinner, as well as music, raffles and silent auctions. Among those sharing their music will be the Black Orchid Stringband, an outfit comprised of West Papuan freedom fighters now living in Melbourne who “sing to live and live to sing” the songs of freedom. The band formed in 2011 to continue the legacy of cultural leader, anthropologist and musician Arnold Ap (1946 1984). All proceeds will go towards the West Papuan Community. Doors open at 6.30pm. Should be a cracker.
