The exhibition will showcase more than 200 items collected from the titanic wreckage.
One of the most famous tragedies in modern history, the story of the Titanic and its ill-fated maiden voyage continues to enthral, educate and break hearts more than 111 years since she sank to the bottom of the ocean. Now, Melbourne is gearing up to host an extraordinary cultural event as more than 200 meticulously preserved artefacts recovered from the legendary Titanic are set to take centre stage at the Melbourne Museum.
After a smash-hit reception in Paris and the USA, the much-anticipated TITANIC: The Artefact Exhibition will make its Australian debut from 16 December 2023 to 14 April 2024, offering visitors an immersive experience like no other.

Expecting to draw visitors from all corners, the exhibition promises a vivid recreation of the Titanic’s interiors, including the Grand Staircase, First Class Parlor Suite, and Verandah Cafe, offering a glimpse into the opulence of the world’s greatest ocean liner in 1912.
Upon entry, visitors will receive a boarding pass, effectively stepping back in time to connect with the human side of the tragedy through personal stories and belongings of the passengers and crew who endured unimaginable circumstances.
An exciting addition to the 2023 edition is a tangible piece of the Titanic’s hull, allowing visitors to touch history itself, complementing the extensive collection of authentic artefacts salvaged from the ocean floor.
Beyond the artefacts, TITANIC: The Artefact Exhibition delves into the enduring fascination that the Titanic disaster has held for both the media and the public. It highlights how this event has inspired films, books, songs, and artworks, leaving an indelible mark on subsequent generations.
This premier Titanic exhibition, affiliated with RMS Titanic – the sole entity authorised by law to recover artefacts from the wreckage – is expected to draw visitors not only from interstate but also from around the world to the State.
This major exhibition is a valuable addition to Melbourne’s spectacular summer of events, running alongside the Australian-exclusive season of Groundhog Day The Musical, the NGV Triennial, BBC Earth Experience, the Boxing Day Test, and the Australian Open.
“Tragedy, heroism, sacrifice, survival and loss – these are themes the Titanic evokes which continue to resonate today, with people of all ages across the globe,” says Museums Victoria CEO and Director Lynley Crosswell. “We are thrilled to welcome this global blockbuster to Melbourne Museum.”
