8 spots to get your hands on Geelong’s best waffles

Waffles via Blank Space Newtown

These are the things you need to know.

In the words of Parks and Recreation’s lead character Lesley Knope, “We need to remember what’s important in life. Waffles, friends and work.”

Damn straight, Lesley. Friends and work are of course important but it’s waffles that are obviously the most imperative part of our lives. They’re just like pancakes, and dare we say it, perhaps even better? They’re sweeter, crispier, and the little pockets holds all of your toppings perfectly in place as you shovel it into your mouth.

If you’re feeling like a plate of these babies, we’ve rounded up a list of the best cafes around Geelong to get your waffle fix.

Pickers Union
Serving delicious food every day 8 ’til 3:30, The Pickers Union are a favourite amongst the crew at Forte, and they’ve got a decent brekky and lunch menu sure to get the taste buds dancing feverishly! One item in particular though has landed them on this list, and that’s their homemade coconut waffles. The delicious waffle comes topped with blueberry ice cream, lemon curb and cookie crumble… It’s pretty much sex on a plate.

The Pickers Union is located at 3 Mackey Street, Geelong.

Blank Space Newtown
The team at Blank Space have been killing it lately. Serving up exceptional St Ali coffee daily from 7am, Blank Space has a fierce menu providing flavoursome and fresh dishes… and their buttermilk waffles are seriously next level. Made with vanilla ice cream, brulee banana, berries, maple and biscoff crumb, this dish is just begging to be ‘grammed and eaten, of course.

Indulge at 4/343 Pakington Street, Newtown.

Sullie’s Kiosk
An institution among locals out in Armstrong Creek, Sullies Kiosk serves up the most perfectly presented waffles you’ve ever seen in your life… and they don’t skimp on the size. Here you can get Crème Brulee waffles, made with Hong Kong egg waffle, French crème brulee, double vanilla ice cream and fresh berries; or Nutella Egg waffles, made with the same but Nutella instead of crème brulee. Yummo!

Find them at Shop 18, Warralily Village

Twisted Dessert Bar
Located on the corner Little Malop street, Twisted Dessert Bar is a go-to place for anyone who has a sweet tooth with their range of cupcakes, cheesecakes, cookies, brownies, slices and truffles. Alongside the sweets, they’re also known to be slinging deluxe hot chocolates, iced frappes, and cappuccinos daily. Anyway, the reason they made the list was for their waffles, which look pretty damn tasty. They’ve got three different flavours to choose from too, with Nutella Belgium waffles, Lemon meringue waffles and simply Belgium waffles.

Just try to say no.

Twisted Dessert Bar is located at 122 Moorabool Street, Geelong.

Newfolk Café
With hand-painted stools, a deep blue feature wall, indoor plants and stunning pendants, Newfolk sports a casual and mellow neighbourhood vibe, and one that all of Newtown know and love. It’s not just the happy vibes and the friendly barista’s perfectly steamed milk that has the locals coming back time and time again, it’s also the delicious sweet Banoffee waffle! It’s got Belgian waffles topped with dulce de leche, caramelised banana, ice cream and praline. Perfect for breakfast or lunch.
It would be a great loss not to indulge in this magnificent pairing sometime soon.

You can find Newfolk Café at 105 Skene Street, Newtown.

Pistol Pete’s Food n Blues
If you are craving a waffle from the Southern States, minus the travel fare, Pistol Pete’s have you covered. Treat yourself with the Chicken and Waffle, which for $20 gets you southern fried chicken on a housemade buttermilk waffle with aunt jemima syrup and whipped butter with your choice of breast or thigh fillet… or opt for the Pork and Waffle, which is pulled pork on a buttermilk waffle with BBQ sauce topped with coleslaw and voodoo hot sauce… um yum?

To take your taste buds directly to the Southern States, call 5221 0287. Open for pick-up or delivery at 93A Little Malop Street, Geelong.

Cold Rock Ice Creamery (UberEats/Deliveroo)
While a major franchise, there’s still something so appealing (and delicious) about having your favourite treats mashed up in to one delicious pile of goopy bliss, and even better when waffles are involved. With these babies, you get the choice of two flavours and two mix ins – whether it be gummy bears, Nerds, Oreo, Tim Tam, M&Ms… the options are endless. We’d recommend indulging on a Wednesday, where it’s buy one, get one free! Woop woop!

Find them at Shop 2/71 High Street, Belmont

Café GO!
Serving delicious food every week day 7 ’til 4 (and from 8am Saturday), Cafe GO! are a hotspot in Geelong when you’re looking for a quality breaky. We could waffle on all day about how great the café is, but it’s their actual waffles that have us drooling. Keeping it simple, you can a tasty waffle with lard ass butter and real maple syrup and fresh strawberries… and for just $13, this is a steal. Can’t seem to find a pic of these bad boys, but the look of the café itself should be inviting enough.

Cafe GO! is located at 37 Bellerine Street, Geelong.

Pasta more your style? You’ll probably be needing this then.
