Ballarat Blog #657

The kids are back at school as parents rejoice all over Australia. Summer has been pretty consistent so far, and one is careful not to complain about the heat as a stark winter in the Rat is never far from the mind of Ballaratians!

The Luke Seymoup Band are playing at Karova Lounge on the 10th of February. I really like their punk/R&B rock sound and found their latest release Mosquitoes quite refreshing with it’s driving rhythm and grunt. Early Buffalo Tom came to mind and they look like a fun loving band with heaps of energy. A great way to kick off your weekend I say!

The Rechords are no strangers to Ballarat and with the Weekend of Rockabilly on from the 10th – 12th of February, the band will bring their toe tapping sounds to Suttons House of Music on the 11th. Quiffs and Doc Martens are set to descend upon the town, and this weekend has been a major success over the years, and hopefully will continue to be for many years to come.

The Royal Hotel Meredith always do the town proud by regularly putting on live music. Who better to soothe the souls of the locals than the legendary Ross Wilson and the Peaceniks who play on Sunday Feb 26th. Richard Clapton is heading out to the quaint little pub on the Midland Highway also a week later. Get your tickets early for these two shows as they sell out quickly.

I have found the Athletic Brewery which for some strange reason I thought was a gymnasium…Hmm. Four pots later, and a few calamari sliders down the hatch and happy days! The Brewery is joined to the Freight Bar, but is a separate business. You can order food from the Freight menu. The Pale Ale and the Sparkling Ale were the two beers I enjoyed the most, but there are plenty of brews on tap to sample. Settling in for the afternoon is easy to do with couches and bar stools to chill out and forget about the world for a while.

Coffee haunt of the week is Cornerstone Cafe down on South Street. Lovely atmosphere in this little place and the lunch menu is absolutely mouth-watering. They also do catering which is handy to know for the next hoe-down you want to throw. Plenty of food pictures on their Instagram page so check it out @cornerstone.cafe
